The Red-bellied Woodpecker is still being fed by his parents. He always seems to be positioned among the leaves, perhaps to make it more difficult to be seen. Here is a glimpse of the big baby.
While I always look forward to migrations and the varieties of birds I may see, I much prefer our "ordinary" birds. You can always count on them to bring hours of amusement. I especially love our year-round birds, who hang out and bring us joy even during the winter.

I love my "ordinary" yard birds too. Seeing them every day gives me the chnce to watch them behave, watch them raise their babies and simply live their lives.
Oh your baby titmouse is adorable...and so is that baby red-bellied! WOW!
I love the ordinary birds too! But I love discovering a new one that I haven't seen before. I saw my first warbler last year...and just this weekend saw my first Indigo Bunting.
It's so cute to see them chirping away as mom and dad try to show them the ropes.
I have never seen a Titmouse...they are not common here and neither is the Red-bellied Woodpecker. But both are slowing extending their range northward. Your pictures keep getting better and better. It is a challenge to get good photos with all the leaves out.
Titmice (is that the plural?) are among my favorite birds. We have quite a few--but I haven't seen babies. Too cute.
Remember--someone's ordinary bird is always someone else's extraordinary bird!

Jayne - Yes, some of them can really get fussy. (Just like the kids.)
Ruth - Thanks. I think I am becoming more comfortable with holding the new lens and not worrying so much about being absolutely steady. Not an experienced photographer, I tended to wait for a "perfect" shot and consequently missed many. Now I realize that I lose nothing by shooting away and deleting.
Donna - So true. Like everything in life, "ordinary" is relative.
