LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

We Love Lucy

Our Lucy continues to keep us grounded during these times.  She accepts whatever happens and lives her life to the fullest, running free in the sunshine whenever possible.  Lying on her beds and snoozing when it's raining.  Unlike too many of us humans, she is not at all reluctant to indicate that she needs a bit of affection for whatever reason.  She will walk over and lean against your legs.  After some head scratching, petting, and an occasional belly rub, she walks back contentedly to snooze again.  If she could talk, I'm sure she would say, "Thanks.  I needed that."

We have had only a bit of sunshine this week.  Mostly we have had heavy rain and high winds.  And that's all right too.  Today the high is 48.  Strange weather indeed.

Lucy and her shadow running in the brightest sunshine.
Her smile says it all.

I cannot comment of the events of this week. My son sent me a text saying, "Ugh.  I hate everybody." I feel much the same way, so this post will be short with three quotes:

"We are going to be considerate and compassionate to everyone.  But my greatest compassion will be for our own struggling citizens"
Donald J Trump

And this quote by Bernie Sanders yesterday, as Republican members of Congress joined the President at the White House to celebrate their victorious passage of a new health plan:
"Donald Trump and Republicans just celebrated voting to let thousands of Americans die so that billionaires get tax breaks.
Think about that."

And from the Dalai Lama:
"I truly believe that compassion provides the basis of human survival."

And from an old poem, author unknown:
"Oh Lord, help us and save us."

Continue to write your elected officials and tell them what you think.  They may not listen but it's still the least thing you can do.  Look for appearances at town hall meetings or other times when you might join others to express your feelings.  Do whatever you can to make your voice heard.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND
TRY NOT TO WORRY SO MUCH

Always good to see a Lucy post here. Dogs have a way of keeping us grounded. These are such heartbreaking and challenging times. I can hardly believe this is our country, but it is. I always believed in my heart we could be more than this. I like your son's text.

It's just so sad & scary. I'm glad we have Lucy to help keep us grounded!

I feel so disappointed and abandoned by this government. That no one cares that a barbarian is destroying the Vision and potential of this country. It is so hard to fight anymore, but that is what they are hoping for. I have long given up the idea that someone is working behind the scenes for Us.

Lucy's smile does say it all! I love your sweet girl and the happiness that she brings you.

As for this week, it's the first one when I actually stopped reading the NYT or watching any news. I did listen to NPR, but not without yelling back at 45 whenever they had a recording of something he said. The hardest part for me is that it appears that his middle class struggling supporters don't realize that they've been sold out.

Ahh, we all needed a dose of Lucy. I keep hoping our system will prevail and not let us get too far off the tracks. Emailing up a storm here.

Lucy's big grin is just what I needed tonight ! I write at least once a week to our two NC Senators and am happy to say that I've heard back from both of them ... of course probably stock answers but at least they know I exist.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. It is so hard not to go down the dark deep hole.

Robin - Yes, we still have our dogs, cats, and the lovely skies and seas. We'll just have to focus on these things that do keep us grounded.

Bug - Amen to that

Nance - I hear all these people who are living the nightmares of his policies and yet they say they voted for him. As for the ones who still think he is doing a great job? I can't believe we share the same country.

KB - I'm so disgusted with Judy Woodruff that the only parts of Newshour I watch are the Monday politics and Friday discussion between Shields and Brooks. Or if I know Marcia Coyle will be on to explain SCOTUS.

Patti - I also hold out some hope, but when I see our "leaders" stand up and tell what we all know are bald-faced lies? It's harder.

Ginnie - I keep writing but they no longer respond. They used to and occasionally Burr still does. But overwhelmingly there is no response.

So glad you're back to blogging. In the perilous times, every voice of reason is needed,
