Last of the Summer Dance

Many small towns close off the street for dancing in the summer.  And many of them do it for the tourists.

Brevard closes Main Street for the residents every Tuesday evening during the summer.  Tourists are welcome, but the dancing is mainly for the people who live here.  There are volunteer instructors available to help those who need a little refreshing.

Typically the children dance together in groups separate from the adults.

Children love the dances

And the adults have a lot of fun

Sometimes the bridge is rather low but so are the dancers

 A great time for everyone

The band stands in the gazebo at the Court House lawn

A sure sign that summer is coming to a close is the announcement that the last Tuesday Street Dance is here.  And that day came last Tuesday.  School starts soon, the camps are closing, and the tourists are leaving us.  But they will be back in a few months when the autumn leaves begin to turn.

Sigh...

Too hot for much dancing outside here, but I like that your area gets together for such a great thing.

Yes, where ever did this summer go to? It hasn't ever been miserably hot this year at all! So grateful!

How fun to have those dances! Our town has a weekly concert series from June til the beginning on August, with different music each week. I'd love it if we had square dancing or even better would be folk dancing or the 60's.
Thanks for sharing such a fun summer activity.

This is a completely new concept to me--I am not aware of any towns around central PA that do this.
But it is a lovely tradition.

What a wonderful tradition. I've never lived anywhere that had that tradition but it sure sounds like fun.

Was the "sigh" over the ending of summer or the return of the tourists for the autumn leaves? Around here, I think I might sigh about both... (and I get the feeling that there are some similarities between our settings).

This looks like fun for any age. Our tourist season is winding down, too, although weekends through Sept will still be busy when aspens begin to change. Off-season is always a treat for those who live in resort towns!

I've been to the lovely town of Brevard ...as one of those pesky tourists ...but North Carolina is my home so I guess it isn't as bad as it could be.
You need to come down and visit me in golf country (Pinehurst)... although I don't play !

What fun. Our street dancing is limited to the annual summer festival although the Mrs. and I regularly attend the concert in the park at our new gazebo. Small town excitement as it were. And still ice cream socials....:)

Thanks for your comments, everyone.
It is a great way to get the town together for a lot of fun. No vendors but many stores stay open and there is an ice cream truck.
