Yesterday dawned with the sound of our lift pump alarming. It is ever so much worse than the most annoying alarm clock you could imagine. So we had the plumber here most of the day. And for that privilege, we paid him dearly. But we had little choice. Want to use the bathrooms again? Then pay the plumber to install a new pump.
The plumber spent a bit of time on the phone locating a pump. (We do not get cell phone reception at our house.) He was totally amazed at the variety of birds he saw coming to the feeders on our deck while he was inside. I didn't tell him, but we never have Blue Jays at the feeders. This sighting marked the second time in our eight years of living here.

There are lots of Blue Jays in our area, staying in the woods and meadows. But I suppose even they want a little variety every now and then.

Sorry to hear about your plumbing woes. But glad to see these great photos of the blue jay. The Stellar's and Scrub jays out west look so different.
I have no clue what a lift pump is, but if the alarm is worse than an alarm clock, YIKES! Plumbing issues... I AM familiar with.
I don't have a huge variety of birds at my feeders, however, Jays are one of the few regulars around here. Sure beats the pigeons that have started hanging out. Between pigeons and doves, there is no longer any grass under the feeders, only ugly, bald spots.
Thank goodness for plumbers!! Glad all is well AND that you got a rare visit from that gorgeous Jay.
Sorry about your plumbing problems.... BUT--we all have to do what we have to do when it comes to things like that...
No cell service there? I would hate that since we use our cell for all personal calls. The little Verizon phone (got rid of our land line) we use in the house is only for business and 'crap' calls..
WELL--now that you have Jays, just wait... He'll tell all of his brothers and sisters and aunts and cousins... THEN--you'll have more than you want... ha

Ouch, plumbers are among the richest of all tradesmen. I'm still reeling from last year.
The good thing is that stray Jay who came to take your mind off the problem. That was sweet of him.
Jays are pretty, but I tend to think a bit aggressive in personality. Glad you had a bright undertone to your plumbing woes!
We have a lot of Blue Jays here too, but they've been absent most of the summer until last week when they reappeared at my feeder again--I think you could be right about their wanting a change, or an easy meal!

I, too, am sorry for your plumbing problems...I once was a plumber's helper, badumpbump. I love blue jays despite their reputation...they are SO beautiful! Glad you saw one...they are rare for our back yard, as well, though I hear them in the treetops on occasions.

We've had well problems ever since the huge floods last September. We are finally accepting that we have to pay a water wizard a lot of money to make things go back to normal... I wonder if he'll have any great bird sightings while he's here?
Lots of blue jays here too. But find a plumber in an emergency... not so easy...:(
I have never had a blue jay come to one of my feeders but I have them in the trees bugging the smaller birds. Those are great pictures.

Those are stunning pictures of the blue jays! I'd imagine it's hard to get a proper picture of them; they might fly away if they sensed something. But I bet having a faulty pump is even harder. That's why getting things fixed has to be priority. I hope the newly fixed-up pump isn't giving you problems now. Take care!
