LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays Are Golden

Our lot slopes so that our deck is on the second story at the back of the house.  We are eye level with the forest and the birds and the girls just love being out there.  Oh, the sounds and smells.

Ellie is trying to figure out where the hummingbird went.

She feels a bit foolish.
...what?...

Proof that the dogs do not always share a single  bed.

But more often than not they do, thanks to Lucy.

I'm ever so glad we live so near the Biltmore Estate.  There is so much to see and do.  We go over there several times a month and love to see the changing gardens and walk the trails.  Oh, and get a scoop of ice cream.

Yet another shot at the Biltmore azaleas.

The quote for this week is about kindness.  Our vitriolic Congress seems to be lacking in kindness, courtesy and compassion.  So all of us need to pick up the slack.

Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama said:

"Be kind whenever possible." He added, "It is always possible."

Be kind to those you meet, even if you don't even like them.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE!!!

You probably run in to Betsy from
Tennessee there. She and George go often to the Biltmore Estates.
At first I thought the two were squabbling. I've never seen them that they weren't snuggling.

Yes, politicians seem to give away their kindness in the rush to do something else. They could sure take it back sometime soon. Thanks for the quote!

Love your girls! You are so lucky to have the Biltmore so close-we've never been there and I would love to go. I so love Azaleas and all the flowers in the south, I miss them here in Colorado.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs, Noreen

Seems like I say it every week, but I do so love Ellie. It's not that I don't love Lucy; it's just that Ellie has such a sweet disposition in your photos. Would that congresses had to follow the path of Micah 6:8 (from the RSV) "do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly..."

I love that kind of attitude. As a matter of fact Barb and I are taking a coping type of class for two weeks at Mayo Clinic. And I'm learning to love..... YOGA! :)

What lucky dogs!
I wonder if you get any type of pass to the Biltmore since you are residents there? It's a pretty pricey place to visit, as I recall.

Ginnie - Yes, the tickets are pricey, especially if not bought several weeks before the visit. But Season passes are more reasonable, especially if you go often. In addition to unlimited visits, passholders get a discount at all the stores and venues as well as attendance at some special events. And you get free passes to give to friends in late winter as well as a discount on tickets for friends who go with you anytime. The season passes are about the same as two visits at full price would be.

When we go, we usually spend a few hours and tend to do only one thing. That was we never tire of going. We usually do not even go into the house itself.

as always, I want to snuggle with those girls!

how great to be able to visit the Biltmore so often. I didn't make it there on my NC visit and I sure wish I'd had.

kindness is lacking in so many these days...but kindness (giving and receiving it) makes one feel so great! It's a wonder that more don't try it.

I like the Dali Lama's phrase, "Kindness is my Religion" Have a good weekend!

Your girls are just lovely and you can see their connection whether they are together or not! Our dogs love to lay on the front porch for the same reasons your girls do--The hummingbirds, and anything else that they can see keeps them entertained for hours!

I love that you take advantage of the beauty of the Biltmore estate in every season! I think I'll want YOU to be my tour guide when we go! :-)

A wonderful quote! Actually, two wonderful quotes -- your <> is excellent southern lady manners.

I think I could spend countless hours on your deck with the forest in my view; just lovely!
The quote you've shared is timeless.
Enjoy your day!

Thanks for the info on the BIltmore as far as the cost breakdown because I know that single visits can be costly as Ginnie noted. It's nice that you go often because people living in areas with wonderful attractions quite often never visit them but instead travel elsewhere...go figure.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Beatrice - I agree. We have visited friends in other states who know very little about their own cities. We hardly ever travel far away. There is so much to do and see around here.

Lucky you to live close to the Biltmore!! My daughter and family live in Clyde, NC. A couple years ago while visiting them, we made a trip to the Biltmore, and it was a fantastic place!! I'm ready to make a second trip there!
