The Nelson Mandela Foundation and the United Nations have declared today "Nelson Mandela International Day." Born on July 18, 1918, today is Mandela's birthday. According to the UN declaration, Nelson Mandela gave sixty-seven years of his life to bring much-needed change in South Africa.
To honor him, people all over the world are being asked to give a mere sixty-seven minutes today in service to others. One minute of your time for every year of Mandela's service to mankind.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon encourages all of us to take action on Mandela's ninety-fourth birthday. What better way to honor such a man than to give to others?
So join me today in giving an hour and seven minutes to do something kind for someone else. Make this a better day. It's a small thing to do and may mean so much to someone. We affect the lives of others in ways we may never know.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NELSON MANDELA!
AND THANK YOU...

Very Easy to do! I'm making dinner for the folks this evening.
I've also already helped my dad work through our new alarm system, which was complex and difficult to learn.
It's a great way to celebrate the birth of a great man.
During our recent trip to S. Africa (over Christmas) it was clear how much beloved Nelson Mandela is. It was also clear that his death may bring about a dissolution of what has held that lovely country together.
I hope his legacy is that his fellow country citizens may emulate his example.
Hi there, I just had lunch with my girlfriend from S.A. and were discussing Nelson's day. Thank you for sharing. Also, I have a question for you(you can email me if you want)-my daughter and her family are considering a move to N.C.-near Cary, or thereabouts for a job relocation. I've read it rains alot in your state. Could you share about this area and if you think it is supper wet.
Hugs, Noreen
Does blog reading and leaving comments count as service?
Service to others is a great way to celebrate Nelson Mandela's life.
A good reminder, today, but one that should be practiced all the time because kindness is sometimes in short supply.
Hopefully I can be kind and giving everyday. Mandela is such an unbelievable generous soul. -- barbara

We most certainly do.
corporations are considered individuals" who can buy our electoral process, we sometimes think we don't matter much. But we do...each one of us.
