Baby birds are rather ugly little things when they hatch. As they grow their flight feathers they look very funny indeed. And so it is with this second brood of Barn Swallows in our neighborhood, when every day is a bad hair day.
The little clowns look like the original angry birds.

The nest is so full I had difficulty counting the little ones. I think there are five or possibly six of them in this nest. Ain't Nature grand?

You wouldn't believe it, but this summer was the first I ever ate blackberries! They were huge, sweet and so yummy! I think I always thought they were full of seeds and I didn't want them - foolish girl! Probably quite pricey around here as well - but I don't care anymore about the cost of stuff!
Barn swallows are so funny peaking out of their nest. Kind of a bummer the mess they make under the nest but it's a small sacrifice for entertainment.

angry birds is right!! I watched a red tail hawk nest from eggs to flight! the nest was on one of the UW buildings, fascinating! amazing how fast they grow! saw the mom and dad bringing all kinds of creatures, squirrel, birds, rabbits....so cool to see up close and personal!
