The French Broad River Basin is far above flood level and the fields near the river are completely underwater as are some of the roads. We've been asking for rain, and we surely got our share of it.
While the trails are far too muddy to travel, there is one beautiful waterfall in our county that is accessible from the road. Here is Looking Glass Falls, overflowing with much more water than usual. The water spans the entire top of the falls, roaring as it crashed into the pool below.
It's a lovely sight to behold. Today the fields remain flooded but most of the roads are clear. The ground is soaked and the dog towels are in the wash.

Guess you didn't get the four inches of snow we got on TOP of the nearly four inches of rain over the past three days. Snow's gone now, though. Hope this is the last of it!
Lovely photos!

Those falls look wonderful - joyfully traveling the way they are destined to go!
Those falls are beautiful.
I remember seeing the French Broad River when we took the "long way" to Hilton Head a couple of summers ago. Beautiful area - at least what we saw from the interstate.
I'm looking for information about Caesars Head to add to my website featuring a 15.2 acre viewfront knoll that I have for sale on my website www.brownellrealty.com. Can I include your Mountain Musings if I have the space? Bo Brownell
The magnificent power and beauty of falling water as long as it's not washing away your fields or worse you home.
Always feast or famine! We have a GOOD snow pack this year. I hope it raises the water level of the lake.
I think the East Coast got drencehd with the rain.
Lovely waterfalls.
We've had a lot of rain in Ohio too - lots of flooded fields & the rivers seem to have forgotten where their banks are. Fortunately we don't have any low places where we live :)
Wow, that is beautiful! I love living in San Diego, especially in winter. I escaped here after undergrad in Chicago and law school in Syracuse. SD has great weather, but there are times when I miss a good rainfall, complete with thunder and lightning. Great pictures!
I love the waterfalls! We also got the heavy rain here on Sunday--Parts of our road had water over it and my driveway looked like a creek and I think there were white-cap waves in my backyard!! Today is much better--thankfully!! I hope you've had an enjoyable day!!
Thanks for the wonderful pictures!
We drove through the mountains today and knew that French Broad River was above flood levels. The waters coming through the rock all along the highway was amazing. We could tell French Broad was high, but we had just come from Missouri and the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers are WAY over their banks. Wonder what this week's rains will bring? Our lake is up a good 12 inches higher than when we left on Thursday.
Our rain (and we had closer to 3 inches) surprisingly turned to snow Sunday morning and snowed hard enough that the snow plows were running for a while to get us off the mountain. Fun little twist on the weekend.
How beautiful! God's creation for us to enjoy!!

We have some cresting rivers here, too, however, we don't have the beauty of the water gushing over falls to take the sting away.
It rained here Saturday and promptly turned to snow as the sun went down. Just what we wanted--more snow!
Raining today again after we had about 3 inches on Sunday. It's slow and supposed to build up until Thursday evening so we might see the creeks over their banks.
Great photo of the waterfall.
Wow! Thats allot of rain in a short period of time. My sister in the Sandhills of NC..dreams of that much rain.
I think you have taken photos of this falls before..but I dont remember so much water..
