The are already on the move and will soon be in an area near you. The Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are migrating!!! I love the anticipation and follow the map report regularly. Perhaps because we are so near an escarpment, the hummingbirds are reported to our north, to our east, and to our west before we see them here. I mix the nectar and put out the feeders weeks before I actually see a hummingbird, but I don't want to miss that first one.
So they are coming. Follow the map and get your feeders out as they approach your area. The map is a self-reporting one, so if you are the first in your area to see a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, you can click on the map and report the sighting. Now that's something to brag to the neighbors about!

Yes, I do love spring. Even heavy spring showers like we had last night.
Perhaps I should buy a hummingbird feeder so I can enjoy their visits, too.
Wow.... Already???? I usually don't see them here until late April... BUT--after we get back from our trip next week, I'll get the feeders out and start looking for them. Have you seen one at your place?????

Love these wee creatures. We get them here on a quick buzz-through. I see one at flowers, rush the nectar out and by then they are gone. Disappointed, they leave...
Disappointed, I keep trying. To no avail.
This has happened at least in three different years.
Mom got one of those (probably not a ruby throated one) stuck in her hair yesterday. For some reason they like Mom, and were buzzing around her, and well, maybe she needs to brush her hair out more often...

It will be a while before we see ours. I was checking our cypress vine yesterday - no signs of life there yet. The hummers LOVE the little red flowers on that vine. Can't wait!
I don't think I can anticipate them near me anytime soon. However, I'll enjoy your reports and photos!
I am glad to see your link also has a map of Canada, but it will be a few weeks before they cross the Great Lakes. Very interesting!

Thanks for the reminder. I must get mine out tomorrow. I have seen them late March before. I like to sit in my swing & watch them.
I have to get my feeders out! I am glad you posted this as I am always behind in getting them out. We had our first one last year the first of April. The feeder will be waiting for him this year.
