LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

Several readers asked about the new painting on my banner.  Our children gave us two paintings for Christmas; one of Lucy and one of Ellie.  Next week I will post the painting of Ellie and give you the link to the artist.  The paintings were framed beautifully and are perfect for our den.

As you have seen from numerous photographs in the past, Lucy loves to have a pillow.  She rests on our feet or shoes if all else fails.  Most often she rests on Ellie.  I never imagined that the very hard hearth would serve as an acceptable pillow but apparently it does.

If she were not sound asleep, I would swear that couldn't be comfortable.

With all the beds around, it seems strange that the girls would lie underneath the kitchen table.

Now I get it.  The bed has slid from its original space.  I think Ellie was lying there and Lucy squeezed in beside her.

We bought these beds some months ago after a visitor's dog peed on one of the old beds.  We thought the beds would be just right.  They are waffle foam and not too large.  They have vinyl bottoms and nothing we could do (not even the man with the duct tape) seemed to prevent them from sliding.  The much bigger problem is that the beds are impossible to clean unless I take off the covers and wash them.  The dog hairs simply stick like glue and no amount of vacuuming will remove them.  I even tried a roll of sticky tape especially designed to remove dog hairs.  Needless to say, we will have to replace them.  I cannot stand all the dog hairs.

I'm not sure whether Lucy is giving Ellie a little kiss, or telling her a secret under the table.  More likely she is nudging her to take more room.

If you have watched any news (real or fake) you must have noticed a marked lack of courtesy in our elected officials.  This lack of courtesy tends to work its way down and I've noticed it in stores, physician offices, and almost anywhere I go.  Simply put...people are rude.  And I do think the rudeness is worse than it has ever been.  This week, let's all focus on being more courteous and understanding.

Next time you disagree with someone, remember these words from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
"We should be as courteous to a man as we are to a picture, which we are willing to give the advantage of the best light."

Yes, it's difficult to find the "best light" in some folks.  But we can only try.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

Ellie looks so long suffering in that last picture.

Look forward to the artist shots. I did Mingus but it sure does look like that!!!

No people aren't as polite as they used to be and manners? I don't know if the word is know any more.

the feel in Madison is overwhelmingly calm and peaceful..the working people are in solidarity...too bad it has to be the craziness that brings people together....

Hi Kim, Your pups look so comfy and lovable-makes me want to snuggle with them. Don't just just hate pet hair.
Have a delightful weekend.

I had that type of bed for my Golden, and I agree - impossible to get the hair off except in the wash. With 2 Goldens, you have double the fur balls!

The endless battle with dog hair is, in my opinion, a losing battle! I'm happy with having it somewhat under control!

Have a great weekend.

What cuties.
The morale of most has gone to the devil. No respect for anything or anyone.

Your girls, with nothing more than a look, consistently break my heart and stitch it back together again! Sadly, my friend, rudeness is at epidemic proportions in our society, and it grates at me, too. Thanks for stopping by my place! It has been neglected, but I did want to put something up for my dear Bug, and I tried really hard to make it funny and beautiful with some of my photos from recent days. I hope it made you smile.

I've been catching up with some of my favorite Golden Peeps....I'm so glad I stumbled here today. You've got Golden picture galore! I couldn't be happier. Your girls are precious and I love how they snuggle together. My Laverne & Shirley do the same, with Laverne being the "hogger" of the two.

Love the banner painting!

Hope you have a great weekend as well!

Love coming here to read about your Golden Girls! Totally agree with you about the general lack of politeness in our society. I do applaud it wherever and whenever I see it in the hope of encouraging more of the same. Part of my orientation to my volunteers always included, "If one of our residents or even our staff don't give you a smile, give them one of yours - they must be having a difficult day and badly need it."

I completely agree with you about the level of rudeness in our society. I never thought it was that difficult to be considerate to others.
I enjoy your pictures of the girls.

Your dogs are just the best. I love how they love to snuggle with each other.
Finding a good dog bed is almost as hard as finding a good dog!!

Hi Carolyn and Pups,
I am so happy to see that you had visited!!
I very seldom go out really. Thank the good Lord my Hubby likes to shop!! I go to the doctors once a year and the dentist twice a year and I have noticed that people are ruder than they use to be, but I had not thought about it coming from our government. I think it comes from TV. What are you thoughts on that?

I take off the cover and wash Bambi's bedding every week.

What a beautiful painting and a wonderful gift. Something to treasure always.

Dogs seem to be able to sleep anywhere. Nella often sleeps with all four legs in the air, and her head hanging out of the basket.
Looks so uncomfortable....how do they do it!!

It costs nothing to be polite.
My parents had little when they were bring my brother and I up.
They gave us some wonderful gifts though...... good manners and being caring human beings. I am blessed to have them......

I love the painting--what a great gift. And I agree that people are not so polite anymore. Maybe they do get it from the politicians.

That last photo is heartwarming. What wonderful loving sisters they are.

I love the painting. What a great idea for gifts!

Duke is playing UNC right now... We are opponents for the next 20 minutes!

I love your dog stories, but the last bit about rudeness strikes a chord. Friday night, I got "chewed out" by a patient's elderly spouse because a physician hadn't signed his wife's death certificate. It took all that I had not to give back in kind, but I kept reminding myself he was grieving. It doesn't excuse his despicable behavior, but it does help me to let it roll off my shoulders. Just because we are treated poorly, doesn't mean we have to give back in kind. It's hard work to take such rudeness, especially when so personalized, but we need to remember that to perpetuate the cycle gets nothing accomplished.
