LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

At Least It's Better Than Last Time

Yet another huge snow storm had blanketed the south.  We awakened to six inches of snow, and that's just the beginning.  If the weather predictions are correct, we will have several more inches today and tomorrow and possibly on Wednesday.  [HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I HATE THE SNOW???]

After helping to shovel the driveway, I took a few photographs of the ugly white stuff.

Our house in the woods.

A very cold yard bird.

Another cold yard bird.

These two yard birds seem to be shouting their disapproval of the snow.

At least this time no one is waiting in vain at an airport.  No one laments the fact of being stuck here and unable to get home.  Our freezer and pantry are full, thanks to a discount card we got last week from our grocery store.  The wine cellar is stocked even though the discount did not apply to wine.  We have a new battery in the generator that failed during the last snow storm and power outage.  But, did I mention I HATE SNOW?

So my plan for the afternoon is to catch up on blogs with my back to the windows.  Then I'll pop in a Bette Davis DVD and do some knitting.  That will be the plan for several days, since we are expecting freezing temperatures to continue for several days.  That means we won't be able to leave our community for a while.

For those of you who love snow, I am happy for you.  And I really am trying to change my terrible attitude.  If I'm successful, I might just take a long walk and enjoy the beauty of the freshly fallen snow.  Even the dogs (who typically do not like snow) are enjoying romping and playing in this one.  Maybe I'll go out and play with them later and enjoy the scenery.  I'm really trying, but I'm not quite there yet.

We've had so little here, and while I don't enjoy it very much anymore, the land needs whatever the heavens send. Just think how lush your woods and mountains will be come spring. The streams will flow with vigor.

Sorry...can't think of anything else that would make you feel better, except to say your photos are pretty!

Sorry you don't like snow... You probably should have moved to Florida instead of the mountains of North Carolina. Did you really think that you wouldn't get snow inn Brevard?????

As you know, I love snow... But--I've always lived in the south and have never had much of it. George is like you; he grew up in the north and he had his fill of snow years ago.

We only got about 4-5 inches today --and it's pretty and as you said, not too much. My son in Chattanooga got MUCH more.

Just relax inside and enjoy your day.
Hugs,
Betsy

Oh dear I so sorry you hate the snow. Have some of that wine for an attitude adjustment. My own view is that snow (in reasonable amounts) is lovely indeed. It's the subzero temps, wind pileing the snow up and ice that keeps me inside. btw were going back to Florida soon for our second ever trip. Can't wait !

I think we're on the same wavelength regarding snow. I'm working on being happier about it - & really I love watching it snow & I've learned to drive in it & I have a new winter coat... I'm trying, really I am, but it's just so cold!

We're expecting 3-5 inches tomorrow. Starting around 10:00 - after I get to work. And then I'll get the joy of driving home in it. Sigh.

It's really OKAY for you to hate the snow - we all hate and love things:)
Live with snow only when I was young, and I remember my parents didn't like it much either!
So maybe it also has to do with what point in life we are. Hope you find something enjoyable to do though:)

It looks very very cold. If I had to live in the stuff, I'd probably not like it as well. But your plan for the afternoon sounds perfect. Stay cozy!

Warm winter hugs to you today. This post could be written by my dear hubby cause he hates snow too. We lived all of our lives in a somewhat mild climate so I'm thankful to be here and also very thankful we don't have to go to work in this. We are hoping that within several years we might possibly be able to get a small condo in a warm climate like Arizona for winters so he can be happier but then I'll be sad missing the grandkids. Oh well, stay in and stay in, have some wine and watch movies.
Hugs, Noreen

Well it won't last forever. The snow is lovely if you don't have to shovel it. The south is getting more snow than we are in Canada.

I have to admit, the way you describe it, it sounds cozy and romantic!

I think the snow is beautiful, but I'm glad I didn't have to take the dogs for a walk! The dog next door kindly jumped over the fence to romp with the granddog, so she got plenty of exercise.

I think we got about 6 inches today.

It's tomorrow's ice I won't like...!

I usually like the snow, but I've already had enough of it this winter. It's all icy and dirty now, and the worst is that more is going to fall and cover the old layer. I think we'll have snow on the ground until April, at this rate!

At any rate, your house looks absolutely gorgeous in the snowy woods. I sure wouldn't guess that that's NC!

Hunker down. Stay warm!

We bought a tractor last year with a bucket. It is guaranteed not to snow here for a bit. But then, we had more than our fair share last winter.

I'm with you - I could live without it.

I'm just happy we haven't lost our power.

The weather this winter has thrown quite a few ironic storms around--snow knee deep in parts of the U.S. south; a Christmas blizzard in NYC; and hardly a flake where we live.
As I have said, I would welcome the snow. I watched the weather today in disbelief. You all got more snow--and we...did...not.

A glass of wine, warm fire, knitting and a good old movie is the right cure for snow any place any time.

LOL...so you don't like snow?!?! I love watching it come down and coat everything...there is great beauty in it....but I too don't like it. At least when it hampers being out in it. Living in the piedmont area of NC, we are not equipped for such weather, so if you have to be out in it, it can be downright dangerous...like yesterday trying to do to work!! And I've got to go in today...and now we have the ice!!

My advice - do not, do not, do not visit our blog. Grins. We are at 28 inches of snow so far this weekend at the house with several more inches expected tonight. But I am one of those sick individuals who LOVES snow.

Stay warm and enjoy that wine.

Christmas Day was beautiful as we had no where to go, and weren't expecting someone to fly in (as you were), but now, school has not even resumed from Christmas holidays (Sam was supposed to go back on Monday) and with the freezing temps, it's now all ICE. I like the first day of it, and that's about it. We are not used to it here and it incapacitates our city, closes businesses, and generally wreaks havoc.

I don't love snow, but I do love how it looks. I don't mind hiking about it in, but never drive. It's pretty for one or two days, and that's it.

Thanks for commenting everyone. The snow has stopped but we have sub-freezing temperatures so there is no melting going on.

Rudee - Yes, it will be good for the trees.

Betsy - Yes, we built our house here because we REALLY did not expect this much snow. A typical year sees six inches here, a main reason we did not move to higher mountains. Last year was record-breaking and not usual at all. We did indeed check the annual snowfall before selecting this area.

Troutbirder - Surprising that we also did not mind the snow all that much when we lived in WI. There, life goes on even with deep snow. Here everything grinds to a halt until the snow melts.

Bug - At least we don't have to drive to work and for that I am thankful.

I enjoy it for about 48 hours once a year :) Then I'm done.

Your house looks beautiful!

We're getting enough snow flurries that I can't keep the driveway clear. I don't know why I bother since nothing is going up or down our hill. Spring can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

I love your photography so I'm thinking that maybe you could have some fun with your camera and the snow.

That was just a thought but then, I remembered - you said that you HATE SNOW!

Stay warm.

Being from the South and not getting to see much snow - I really do LOVE it! My husband is from Buffalo, NY and does not like it so much. I hope you get thawed out soon!

Love that snow & I miss it but don't like the mess it causes when it starts to melt. I think it is really pretty in the mtns. One Spring we had 18", couldn't open the door. lol
It was different then as I was much younger & health was much better.
Stay warm, stay inside with a cup of hot tea. All will be fine.
