LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

I've decided to change the header often this month to show you some of my favorite Christmas decorations.  My husband gave me this Santa with dolls many years ago.  At the time and in our circumstances then, it was quite an extravant gift.  The detail is amazing and every time I look at it, I am reminded of those days when money was so tight.  It makes me realize once again that we had just as much fun and joy at Christmas back then as we do now.  Love and family make the season...not money or status.

If you watch the weather reports you know that the Southeast is in a deep freeze.  Our temperatures have been twenty-five degrees below normal for this time of year.  It's rare to awaken to ten degree weather around here.

The Golden Girls think the weather is just about perfect.  They love their walks in the cold morning air and are full of energy when they are outside.  When they come back in, they are content to lie around and snooze.

Lucy has just plopped down, once again pushing Ellie under the chair.  She looks so innocent, doesn't she?

Lucy sometimes curls up like a little puppy.  When she is like that she looks more like a one-year-old than the five-year-old that she reallly is.

Both dogs love their plush beds.

Lucy always manages to look relaxed and comfortable.

The Christmas season brings happiness and sorrow even to non-Christians.  We remember those loved ones we have lost and grieve anew for them.  There are so many reminders of them mixed in with our memories of Christmas.  The preparations and planning often overtake us and we may begin to dread the approaching holiday with so many things left to do.

We often become so caught up in the stress of the season that we lose our happiness for a while.  Hawthorne said it well:
"Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued is always just beyond your grasp but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."

And so you need to sit down quietly away from the stress of planning the perfect Christmas.  Take yourself away from all those things.  They truly are not important.  Then, perhaps happiness like the butterfly might alight upon you.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERONE!

Thank you so much, NCMW for those lovely thoughts...Today is a bit of a respite. The cold isn't as cold! The ice isn't as icy. Have a great upcoming week, yourself! And thanks for all your sweet comments on my blog!

Lovely post as usual! We've had temps in the 6 - 20 range this week, but today it's crept up to the 30s. Practically a heat wave!

your golden girls are brave -- my girls don't want to go out when it's 40 degrees and misting!

Love the Santa and the dolls -- what fun it must be to see it anew each season.

My grandmother died on Christmas eve more than a decade ago. I feel her very close at this time of year - she loved it and had such fun with her decorations.

Stay warm and dry, girls!

What a special header! Christmas will be really different for us, especially for our son and his dear family. And yet, without a focus on the birth of Christ, we would all be very discouraged and close to feeling hopeless. We'll be so relieved when they will finally get here from PA. All those outward trappings of Christmas have no hold on us - and we'll rejoice.
Loved your golden girls - that's how I feel - just want to sleep some more. It's cold outside -18C - zero F.

Love your header, Carolyn.... SO cute....

And your babies --even though they like to go outside for a bit--probably are content to stay inside and stay WARM during this weather.

Now they way that MORE cold and snow is coming.. It's going to be 'that' kind of winter I think...

Have a great weekend and stay WARM.
Hugs,
Betsy

Love the Santa & the dolls!
A lot of people forget what Christmas is all about. Often time we get caught up with who can buy the BEST gifts this year.
Stay warm and have a wonderful Holiday season!

It sounds as if this cold weather has gotten to your side of the mountains. At least the Girls like this weather. Lucy always does look comfortable when she's napping.
I like your header.

Your Santa is amazing and the memories that are a part of him make him a real treasure and something very special!

You are right about what's most important about Christmas and the holidays--And a new purse and wallet are always nice too, I'm glad you 'treated' yourself! :-)

Those are very cold temperatures for you. We are seasonably cold but I saw photos on the news of Florida's frosts. Any dog in a furry coat must feel happier when it is cool outdoors.

What an amazing Santa!

Nice final thought there Carolyn. It is indeed a hard time of the year for us having lost our eldest now 12 years ago at this season. Still, the visit to Colorado to see our other son and grandchildren do much to bring the joy back.

Love the stash of tennis balls!

The temps have been cool for this early in the winter up here as well, but 10 would sound toasty - grins. We have to get our errand running today because we are supposed to have heavy snows here starting tonight.

Beautiful post my friend. Since my family and I decided to make Christmas "gift free" it is a much more enjoyable time for me. I can really focus on the meaning of the season. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hey Carolyn, I'm taking some time out to check on my blog buddies. The girls look wonderful! This has been a very hectic year for us so we decided to for go all the Christmas stress this year. We'll give gift cards as gifts and slip off to our mountain house for a quite un-decorated Christmas. We've been doing some remodeling at both places and I just don't have the energy to celebrate in the NORMAL fashion this year! XOXO

I enjoyed your sentiments about happiness, and you're right, the pressures of our own creations usually lead to less than ideal results.

Fridays are Golden!!! Lucy does look oh-so-innocent but we know the truth! And, who has all the tennis balls?

Thanks for the Christmas thoughts. I started to have that feeling of dread today... You're right - I need to step back and just enjoy having my family here!
