LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

Our Ellie loves tennis balls better than any other toy.  Even when she was a little puppy, she loved to bat them back and forth.  When we are in the den, Ellie often has two tennis balls in her mouth.  She can, in fact, hold three of them but seldom does.  I suspect they do not fit as comfortably as two.  She picks them up with amazing ease.

She will hold the two balls until she decides to snooze.

Moving to another area she takes the tennis balls with her.

Resting beneath my husband's desk with her two tennis balls.

Lucy seems to know that Ellie can do something she cannot.  She tries and tries to hold two tennis balls.  She will push them around the floor for several minutes and occasionally she can get two of them placed in her mouth at the same time.  But as soon as she starts to walk with them, she will drop them.  She repeats this process several times a day, but her mouth just doesn't seem to hold them.

So what?  I don't need to hold two balls at once.  Besides, I've got more tennis balls than you do anyway.

The water levels are still high around here, but the sun is shining and we are enjoying the crisp clear air.  December is upon us and we will start decorating today.  I've already put some Christmas CDs in my car and I'm beginning to feel the spirit of the season.

I leave you with a quote from Marcel Proust:
"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."

I hope you have people around you who make you happy.  I hope your soul blossoms.  More importantly...I hope you are someone who makes other people happy.  Try to be a charming gardener this week.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND EVERYONE!

Our toy d'jour is Frisbee around here! We have one Border Collie who would love nothing better than to retrieve that thing all day long. She suffers horribly from CRS Syndrome when commanded to perform some livestock related task (CRS stands for "Can't Remember ...Stuff"...but she responds immediately and with grand enthusiasm when a Frisbee is in her vicinity. Rememebers perfectly. Hard on a trainer's ego! :-((

Yours are beauties and amazing!

excellent advice, m'dear! I will endeavor to be that charming gardener.

that two-tennis ball in the the mouth trick is pretty funny -- what a nut job!

I picked up some Christmas candy at the store last night and shall resist it all day long. I must find a worthy recipient, and soon, or all is lost!

What a lovely quote and sentiment!

It's very cute that she carries the balls around with her in her mouth. Gave me a big grin!

Greetings, Loved seeing Ellie with the tennis balls-at least they are the same size~my friend has a Springer who carries two balls, one in front of the other and the back ball is much smaller so I worry it may go down her throat.
You mentioned people that make me happy and I've made so many wonderful friends in blogland that do just that. I'm off to a friends who is dog-sitting 15 Springers today and that will make me happy.
Have a blessed weekend.

What a wonderful chuckle this post is.
I love our fur children and the endless ways they amuse us (and themselves). Would that all God's creatures were so simple.

That is so funny Carolyn... do you think Lucy has tennis ball envy? Hope you all have a great weekend too!

That's quite a trick that Ellie can do with those tennis balls. I've never seen such a thing. It's incredibly cute!

The clouds have moved in for the weekend here. It's pretty bleak, and we're in for more rain. Ah winter.

It is the golden trait -- Ellie says, "all tennis balls are mine." as my golden, Sal, also mutters.-- barbara

I thought, it's friday - I need to go see the Golden Girls! I love the 2 tennis ball trick. I think that only very special goldens can do it. My dogs have never been able to hold two balls.

But, Lucy does have control over the most balls!

I'll take your advice and try to be a charming gardener!

Love the quote, Carolyn.... I try to follow this quote all of the time: Surround yourself with Positive People.

I used to have a friend who was so negative--about everything. She always found something negative to say about anything and everything. She is no longer my friend...

Great pictures of those talented doggies... Ellie may have two in her mouth --but Lucy has several more next to her... Both are special!!!!

Don't miss my blog today... You will LAUGH.
Hugs,
Betsy

I think Lucy -- in that last picture -- looks somewhat dejected that Elle can do something that she can't. But both girls are definitely cute.

Hi Carolyn,
Oh I love your post today!!!!!!! I had a shepherd and when he was a very young puppy we wanted to chew on my hands with those sharp little teeth. I started putting a tennis ball in his mouth every time he started to chew on me. In just one day of doing that, every time he came to me he had a tennis ball in his mouth. No more chewing on my hands. But for the rest of his life he had a tennis ball in his mouth every time he came to me!! He loved to play ball with them too!!

I will do my very best to be a charming gardener.

Ellie is delightful. You would think the balls in her mouth, for such a long period, would be uncomfortable. Obviously not....

May the Christmas season bring you and yours peace and joy.
Have fun decorating your home....I get my tree today.

You'd thing it wouldn't be comfortable holding those balls in her mouth for so long -- she must really be proud if her accomplishment!

Good quote.

Your girls are so special, love them both.
Have fun decorating today and be careful.
I nearly fell off a ladder putting lights up outside, that would not put me in a festive mood. :)
