LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

OK, We're Tacky Too

I mentioned that my neighbor puts a smiley-face pumpkin cut out (a LARGE one) by her mailbox every year and I think it is tacky.

I must admit she is not the only tacky person around.  Here are my two favorite tacky Halloween decorations.  But at least we keep them in our own house and not outside.

Not just a lighted ghost.  This beauty is a lava lamp.  When the light heats up the liquid, tiny swirls of goop move around.

And this scarecrow has been around for years.

Not just any scarecrow.  He's fiber optic.

He casts an eery glow when the room is darkened.

The next two photographs show just how tacky I am.  They were taken immediately after Monday night's game and are from the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel.  They have become my favorite photographs of Brett Favre.

Oh, yeah, Brett.  So sorry it was your passing that cost the Vikings the game.

No looking up at the Packer fans this time, huh?

I wouldn't be so hard on Favre if I hadn't watched his arrogant happy dance when he mistakenly thought he had thrown the game-winning touchdown pass.

We still have his personally autographed poster hanging in my husband's study.  However we give it a somewhat different salute than we used to.

Favre-- yeah.

I don't think your decor is tacky :)

It's so hard to know the fine line between tacky and tasteful when it comes to holiday decor-- but of course, some people seem to think, "The tackier the better!" It's like they never grew out of their childhood taste for decorations :) Not saying it's a bad thing-- just an observation! Maybe it's their way of "staying young"!

I love your lava lamp ghost....
in fact I love lava lamps!!!

Mr. Farve should have quite when he was ahead not kept coming back. Much better to go out with grace rather than disgrace.....

I believe I understand your disdain for Favre but I speak as a Vikings fan when I say that any QB would have done a celebritory dance if he thought he'd thrown a TD to win the game. He did throw some terrible passes and he/coaching/Moss penalty did lose the game. He was a blast to watch last year (until the interceptions in the Super Bowl)for Vikings fans, anyway. He should have stayed home this year and now is his chance to leave with an injury and let another, younger QB play.

I like your decorations!

i think tacky is in the eyes of the beholder -- some folks claim folk art is tacky. I enjoy the diversity -- barbara

Oh---those are NOT tacky... They are CUTE... I love them --but maybe I just love TACKY. What I truly hate are those blow-up Halloween things... Some yards try to see how many of those nasty things they can have.... ha ha

You feel about Favre like we Tennessee fans feel about Lane Kiffin ---our arrogant coach who left to go to USC... He not only left us in the lurch--but he also took our recruits with him. You can only imagine what Tenn. Fans think about him.... ha

Hugs,
Betsy

Well, Hallowe'en is one holiday we don't do.
I guess I really decorate most for Christmas--and even that gets spotty when we keep heading off to spend Christmas in England (for some strange reason).

Love the lighted scarecrow, though.

Tacky is fun when you know it's tacky. Tacky is just sad when you think it's the livin' end. The trick is to know the difference!

Well, I grew up in Wisconsin and my high school band even marched at a football game in Greenbay, and now I'm in Minnesota. But I don't care about Football anymore. I guess I just think they are a bunch of fools. To me it is sort of like watching the gladiators, except that they are paid. And now they are finding that even the little hits at the line are causing many mini-concussions, so it won't be just me that think of them as fools.

Oh gosh, I am laughing out loud at your new salute to Brett.
Hey, we gotta get a little tacky around the holidays, right?
Lava lamp pumpkin? That is a first.

Can you hear me laughing? Visualizing your salute made my chuckles about your tackiness escalate to a belly laugh. Thank you!

I am SO jealous of that lava lamp with the swirly goop!

Want to share custody? I'd let you use my Christmas treetop angel with the skirt that makes lacy snowflake patterns on the ceiling when it's lit and spews glitter even 40 years later... even though glitter spewing isn't supposed to be a feature of it.

I'm not much of a sports fan, but I hear it wasn't a shining moment.

I like the lava lamp...

Thanks for commenting, everyone.

Lynne - you are absolutely right about the dance. But he seemed so "in your face" with it. After watching him all those great years in Green Bay, I sincerely hopes he goes in to the Hall of Fame as a Viking.

merrilee - LOL at the angel. At least none of our things shoot glitter at us.
