LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

Our Golden Girls have a pretty good life.  They don't work for a living, and good manners are all that we require of them.  Everything else...the loving and caring comes from them on their own.  They just sort of hang around.

Here Lucy hangs around on the sunny deck.  I made her sit for the photograph and she was none too happy about that.

Abrupty and without any reason, we periodically make them do a down/stay.  They seem to wonder why we do that, but it's all part of making it a habit.

I always wonder just what's behind Lucy's smile.  She looks as if she knows something that I don't know.

Running and playing are part of every day.

Along with a little wrestling.  They do love to rough it up sometimes.

But mostly, they just hang around together.  Despite having more beds than dogs, the girls are often together in one bed.

Less than a month from now, all of us will have a very important obligation.  That is to exercise our right to vote.  I urge you to read extensively about the candidates running for office.  We hear so many ugly sound bites that we decide we don't want either candidate.  Too bad, because one of them will be elected and that can make a huge difference.  The party in control of Congress will chair the important committees.  The Speaker of the House is third in line for the Presidency. If (God forbid) something happens to both the President and the Vice President the Speaker of the House will be your President.

Often overlooked in the election are the non-partisan candidates for State Supreme Court and Courts of Appeals.  These are extremely important positions.  Don't mark your ballot without knowing something about the person you are voting for.  With the marvels of the Internet, you can find information about all of them.  In most areas the League of Women Voters publishes information given to them by these candidates.  Research and be an informed voter.

Eleanor Roosevelt, one of my favorite women had this to say:
"Sometimes I wonder if we shall ever grow up in our politics and say definite things which mean something, or whether we shall always go on using generalities to which everyone can subscribe and which mean very little."

This year, the political parties and the candidates (like all other years before), are full of generalities and little substance.  Candidates are promising whatever they think voters want.  You've heard all of them.  Far more often than you would like.  Like it or not, you must vote for someone.  This year especially, you cannot be apathetic.  You must vote.

I hope you are having some good fall weather.  It's beautiful here with crisp mornings and clear days.

WHATEVER PLANS YOU HAVE FOR THE WEEKEND, ENJOY  THEM.  AND NEXT WEEK BEGIN YOUR RESEARCH ON THE CANDIDATES FOR OFFICE IN YOUR AREA.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

Love the girls! They're just so beautiful.

Our paper published a voter's guide yesterday. I'll read it this weekend, but then I'll do some more research too.

This time of year drives me batty. What is funny to me how the ads seem to often have the opposite effect with me. A incumbent I know is someone I like, have talked to on several occasions, and agree with on many issues (but not all - but who agrees on everything). But his ads slamming his opponent actually make me like a few of the stances of his opponent. I wonder if that happens in a lot of cases.

Good advice. And in any case, I conclude someone who likes Eleanor can't be all bad! :) What a woman she was....

I think you might be right about Lucy's smile, but she's a beauty any way (so is Elle). It's great that they like to hang out together.

I like your advice. This is a very important election.

I just love how expressive they are for you Carolyn! Have a great weekend!

The girls are beautiful, and mostly obedient, too. We work on obedience with Daisy every day. Otherwise, her exuberant nature would get out of hand.
You're so right about the need to be well informed and vote.

A very important message today Carolyn. Thanks!
Your girls are just the sweetest...running, playing, laying around; they have a great life.

I don't wonder what Lucy is thinking. It's obvious. Her smile says, "I adore you--even with those random down-stays."

Wish all politicians could be as sweet and honest and mannerly as your Golden Girls, Carolyn... You all do such a great job with them. Wish all dogs were that well-behaved!!!!

Good advice... Our country needs to get educated about what is going on... We need to educate ourselves --and not just listen to the media and others who blabber out there (on both sides of the isle)...

Betsy

A good reminder, Carolyn! I'm not always as diligent about the judgeships etc. as I should be. Will try to pay better attention this time.

LOL - we have so many more beds than dogs, it's not even funny. We actually may have more beds than dogs within several individual rooms.

We went from hot and dry to cold and wet, but we are finally having some nice sunny fall weather this weekend!

Presently there is a post on Time Goes By wrote by Pulitzer Prise winner -- Saul Friedman -- http://www.timegoesby.net/weblog/. He very aptly puts the mid-term elections in perspective. I recommend it good reading for those who plan to vote or even are considering not voting. I found it quite positive considering all that has to be considered for this upcoming election. -- barbara

Hi Carolyn,
I want Lucy and Ellie to tell me for whom I should cast my vote. I think maybe they know something important - that I don't!

Neat that they have each other for company : )

I say if you don't vote you don't have the right to complain or fuss about politics : )

Oh, I've missed coming by here and seeing your sweet babies! They are beautiful and a joy to see and read about.

As a side effect of voting, finally the danged ads will be gone - one after another, over and over and over- and it wouldn't be so bad if they actually SAID something I could learn from!

I have to agree - Lucy truly looks like she know something that the rest of us are not privy to!

Maybe she knows who to vote for :)

The ads right now are driving me nuts. I will do my research.
