LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Sometimes Saturdays are Golden

Another major winter storm descended upon us delivering snow, freezing rain, snow, freezing rain, etc., etc. Widespread power outages were expected and widespread power outages arrived and lingered all day. Everything is still coated in thick ice and loud cracks are heard throughout the forest as frozen limbs can no longer bear the weight. The ice thickly coated our Internet antenna and we had no reception...hence no Golden Friday post.

For the Golden Girls, the day was a bonanza as we spent most of it in the den. We have a generator that will run our house, but in the interest of conservation we turned off one of the heat pumps and settled ourselves in the den. The girls love that since they can freely romp and play there.

I have mentioned before that while we have a basket totally full of various toys, the dogs favorites are tennis balls and an old blue tug.

After yet another trip out in the freezing rain, the dry (but not yet groomed) dogs settled in to rest. Ellie chose to simply lie there holding a couple of tennis balls.

Lucy grabbed several tennis balls and put them in her bed.

You're not going to take this away from me, are you? I'll try not to have too much fun.

Lucy often rolls on the tennis balls for a quick massage.

A tennis ball on either side is better than one.

Sometimes a dog is just too tired to crawl all the way into bed for a nap.

But you can always count on a snuggle next to Ellie, even if there really isn't room for you. Just contort your body a little and you can make it.

This morning the sun is shining and the forest looks like a crystal cathedral. We will likely have more power outages and problems with fallen trees but we are as well prepared as one can be with a generator, good books, plenty of food and two wonderful Golden Girls to keep us amused and grounded.
Have a wonderful weekend, making the best of whatever awful weather you may be having. As you manage in bad circumstances, think of all the others who are in dire straits with no respite in their futures.

It's nice that you have a generator! Makes everything so much easier. We missed the big storm this time. Kind of glad about that!
Stay warm :)

Your pictures show the best way to spend any snow day, whether you have 4 or 2 legs! Enjoy your day and stay safe--We have about 2 ft.here in VA.

Glad you have sun - we are still very cloudy and snowy. Praying that everyone is ok in the mud slide near us, but all the word we are hearing right now is good.

A nice snow day for all! The girls look so contented! We've been lucky so far over in Madison with only rain.

I love that last photo of the girls, curled together like the best friends that they are.

I'm glad that you have a generator and are cozy at home. Enjoy a quiet day.

Hi, I love seeing your Golden Girls... I have missed them!!!!! Poor things--they are feeling 'winter' like the rest of us...

Glad you have a generator. We do not--and so far have not lost electricity. This storm missed us except for tons of rain --and then a dusting of snow this morning. I feel sorry for all of the areas (Yours and north and east of you) who got the brunt of this storm...

I like both teams also.

Hugs,
Betsy

Those two are endlessly cute! I really love seeing them.

We're having plenty of rain here, and if it gets any colder it will be snow. I hope the sun stays out where you are, and that you take a few pics of the icy cathedrals. Stay warm.

Your girls are so sweet and cute. Do they know which bed is which?
So funny, Cocoa does not like tennis balls at all...she prefers the big ol' softballs. (real softballs, they are hard!) And ozzie is afraid of all flying objects (toys)
I hope your electric stays on...but knowing you are prepared is wonderful too.
take care, Suz

So lovely to have the golden girls back....they do make me smile.

The tennis balls did make me laugh....especially two is better than one...

The forest must look stunning at this time. Snow and ice give such a magical atmosphere.
Our heavy snowfall caused old oaks to drop some of their limbs and I have a few conifers that need tying in.......

Stay warm, stay snug.....and enjoy....spring is not that far away

That last photo is so precious. Stay safe and warm. It would be nice if this was the last winter storm of the year.

They are such good models! My dog slinks away when she hears me turn the camera on. I behave similarly, I guess.

Raining here. Again.

So glad you posted the pictures. The two-tennis ball hold tickles me. You don't need TV!

Hi Carolyn, Your Girls have brightened my day! Rest is good - especially with ice everywhere. Hope you are dug out of the ice and snow soon. Here in CO, sunny skies!

I'm glad that you have a generator to keep you safe if the power goes out! So far we've been lucky with the power - we don't have a generator, just plenty of firewood!

So nice to see you back in the blogosphere, Carolyn! Your girls are as beautiful as ever. The picture of them snuggling together has made me feel warm on this cold, cloudy day.

And I really loved the pictures of the nuthatch visiting your cute little house. I do hope they decide to make it their home. The nuthatches are my son Benjamin's favorite bird, and I love them too.

Love those golden girls!
My Dad always told me that no matter how bad it is for me, there's always someone worse off. I try to remember that when I start feeling sorry for myself.
