Lucy investigates the sleds on the front porch. My husband's childhood Flexible Flyers are decorated with red bows. Both the short one and the long one were obviously much used and much loved. We hung a pair of ice skates on them in Wisconsin, but that seems a bit out of place here in NC. Given their ages they qualify as antiques. (How scary is that?)
Ellie is always more careful investigating new things. She approaches more cautiously. Lucy is already bored with the sleds since they don't do anything for her, so she turns away to await the next adventure.
Ellie catches the scent of some animal who passed by during the night. She is quite attuned to smells and we call her our scent hound.
In a rare moment of quiet, Lucy sits and smiles for the camera. Lucy is very active and retains a lot of puppy qualities. Sometimes that is really cute; sometimes not so cute. She's four years old now and apparently has no plan to grow up.
As we prepare to go indoors, Lucy turns and smiles as if to say, "Oh, don't you just love the holidays!"
Oh, yes dear Lucy. We do indeed love the holidays...the religious and the secular. We love the decorations, the music, the food, and the warm glowing holiday feelings.
I hope that you will enjoy whatever holiday you celebrate this month. Keep in mind that there are many opportunities for you to help those in need both here and abroad. I hope you will take advantage of them and give as much as you can.
Have a wondeful weekend and don't stress out. It will all get done so take a little time each day to sit with the beverage of your choice and just contemplate upon how fortunate you are. And enjoy that holiday feeling.

Lovely pics of the girls! The last one, however, to my morning bleary eyes looked like one very long dog. :-)
Aren't dogs just the bestest? Your girls are lovely.
I LOVE THAT YOU ALSO USE YOUR OLD SLEDS FOR DECORATIONS,I HAVE ONE FROM MY CHILDHOOD,I PUT IT ON MY PORCH AT CHRISTMAS WITH A RED BOW ALSO,AFTER THE HOLIDAYS I TAKE THE BOW OFF AND LET IT STAY THERE ALL WINTER,THE KIDS ACTUALLY GOT IT DOWN AND USED IT LAST YEAR FOR MY GRANDSON TO SLIDE ON.WHAT MEMORIES!! HOPE YOU HAVE A BLESSED WEEKEND.
Doesn't look like Lucy and Ellie are going to stress out during the holidays, Carolyn... I remember those days when I truly was stressed --and was such a scrooge. Too much to do---not enough money---trying to balance working, kids, and Christmas, etc.....
NO LONGER... I love Christmas and am not going to get stressed out. That's not the reason we celebrate Christmas anyhow. Wish I had have learned this when I was younger.
Have a great weekend. Snow is coming.
Hugs,
Betsy
I think that 'growing up' is over-rated! Way to go Lucy!
My husband has his flexible flyer sled too. And, despite his 48 years, he uses it every single winter. He especially loves that we now have two young nephews who will sled with him. He even has a 'sledding party' with a blazing campfire on our land for his work-mates almost every winter!
Our dog R would agree with Lucy about growing up. But, those young-forever dogs sure can make me smile. Last night, I was sitting in my 'back-friendly' chair looking morose, and R climbed into my lap (not allowed but I didn't enforce it) and smothered me in kisses. That moment was worth all the mischief he's gotten into in his life!
I love the holidays,.... and I always love having Friday coffee with "the girls!"
That sled is beautiful, and the girls are, to!
The girls look like they're really in the holiday spirit! The sleds are such a nice idea for decorating.
Great photos of the girls. They have such distinct personalities. They are a perfect pair. Beautiful girls.
Your girls are the best models!
Your message of enjoying the season is a good reminder to take it easy and make time to reflect and relax. Thanks for the memo!
Beautiful post, as usual. Love those sleds and the dogs and your front door and your wise words and this is the longest run on sentence ever. :)
Have a great weekend!!! Suz
Growing up is overrated.
I hope we can do some decorating this weekend. We still haven't figured out where the tree is going to live.
I'm pleased that last night I was able to whittle down my Christmas card list to 60 (from 80!). Since I make the cards that will save quite a bit of time.
Another thing I hope to do is to decide what charities will get gifts from us in the names of our relatives - they like us to spend the money that way instead of on them.
Have a great weekend!
Great picks Carolyn! Would love to see Lucy and Ellie in a Santa Hat with a bow on their collar?? :)
Sitting here with my feet up, relaxing, reading your lovely blog and watching the snow fall in big, bouncy flakes. No stress allowed here! Beautiful pictures!! Enjoyed my visit!
We were out hiking the other day and a couple approached with their golden girls, and all I could think was: Wow, it's Lucy and Ellie!
You goldens are gorgeous!!!! Lovely pics! Hugs Joey and Kealani
Often time people get caught up in the hussle and bussle of the holidays and forget about what it's really for.
You girls are lovely as always. :)
How cute are the golden girls.....they join in all your activities and seem to know exactly what you are up to......such fun.
the dogs are so beautiful....:) i met a year old Dichi today at work, just coming in for a routine check-up...very handsome, small guy...these folks lost their beloved golden about a yr and a half ago to a spleenic mass rupture...very sad day...but so good to see them with their new dog!
i love your "words of wisdom" at the end of your blog....i take it to heart...and try not too get my cortisol levels too high!
xo
The girls look like they're in the holiday mood after checking out the decorations. My Daisy is like Lucy. She has no intention of ever growing up.
Oh, we do love the holidays. We were in downtown Waynesville this evening and just love all of the lights.
Baron sends his Holiday Wishes to the Golden Girls. Woof! Woof!
Your sled decoration looks great, and the girls are beautiful as always :)
Hope you have gotten some great treats for their stockings. I love your dogs.
Lovely photos of the girls - they seem to be glowing with Holiday Cheer! I also have my old sled (an antique!) which I put on our front porch. It's so heavy - I can't imagine how I managed it as a child!
Beautiful pictures of beautiful girls.
I love the one of Lucy posing and her Christmas smile!
