Our dogs seemed to enjoy the rain when we lived in Wisconsin. Perhaps it was the urban setting with our manicured lawn and huge maple trees that sheltered them from the heavy rain. Perhaps it was because they could run freely in the rain all over the large lawn, hiding under bushes and playing chase. Who knows? But for whatever reason the girls do NOT like the rain here. And rain we have had. Steady rain. More than four inches of rain. Rain falling all week long.
Lucy patrols the house to see if it is still raining.
Yep. It's falling on the deck.
Then she went to the dining room window to look out.
Funny, it's raining on this side of the house too.
Along with the rain, we had gusts of high wind. In fact, the wind blew one of the bird feeders off the deck. My husband retrieved it and was preparing to take it back outside. It provided a bit of diversion for Lucy.
I've never seen one of these close up. Interesting!
She watches as my husband hangs the bird feeder and checks the rain gauge.
He is crazy to go out there when he doesn't have to!
Lucy is almost singing, "Rain, rain, go away."
Ellie looks out and then back at me.
See? There's plenty of room for another.
Go ahead with the silly tennis ball thing, Ellie. Just make sure to wake me up when it's dinnertime.
As we approach another weekend, let's continue to remember our men and women in uniform and make this a week of honoring. Reflect on what they are doing and how they are living. Watch the memorials of the very young men and women who are losing their lives every week. Our thoughts go out to their families and loved ones.
Ellie looks out and then back at me.
Is it almost time for dinner?
Boredom sets in and Ellie decides to practice holding multiple tennis balls in her mouth. She can hold three at once, but rarely does so. Most of the time she is carrying two at a time.
See? There's plenty of room for another.

---------------Enjoy your weekend wherever you are. Don't forget your pledge last week! We are not going to let the upcoming holidays stress us this year. Holidays are for love and family and everything else is superficial.
HAVE A WONDERFUL AND SAFE WEEKEND. DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE ELSE AND AT LEAST ONE THING JUST FOR YOURSELF.

Were you getting the remains of the tropical storm that pounded the Gulf Coast? We've had gorgeous fall days here in Alabama this week, highlighting the last of the leaves before they change from gorgeous displays of nature to simply a yard-work chore!
Poor girls - make that rain stop! Maybe snow would be more fun for them... My dogs hesitate at the door when it's really pouring but don't seem to mind once they jump out into the deluge. But, they're labs, after all.
It seems like you've had a ton of rain in recent months. Perhaps the drought is over!
The two tennis balls is a pretty good trick! I have never seen one of my dogs do that!
Enjoy your weekend! I hope it stops raining!
Hope you enjoy your weekend, too. And I hope it's sunny!
(Our weather doesn't look promising, either. It's been rainy and windy for the past few days.)
2 tennins balls? Wow!
My girls don't like to go out when it's raining. They would hurry back as soon as they are done.
Have a great weekend!
Good to see the girls! Lucy has the right idea,... same thing i'd do on a rainy day,.. take a nap! :)
Those poor girls. Daisy would be suffering from an extreme excess of exuberance after all those days stuck indoors.
Our kitty cat doesn't like the rain either. He has a way of looking at us that says, "Okay, make it stop now," like we're in charge of the weather. Hope things dry out there and your golden girls get to romp around outside soon.
Sorry about all that rain, girls! Love all the photos and stories, but the new bed resting picture is so inviting!!! And those tennis ball shots are terrific too - what a happy expression on her face!
Hugs xo

Funny, I remember when my daughters were SO small that they also would check BOTH sides of the house and say "Hey Mom, it's raining over here too!!!"...
Were only getting some gusty winds up here in Ct. but its overcast and dismal. (We should be having your weather by this afternoon, Maybe)
Wishing you Sunnier skies soon...
My Best~Marilyn
Their different personalities are so comical...and so sweet!
Hopefully the girls will get a break from the rain soon so they can be outdoors enjoying themselves. The tennis ball tick is pretty clever of Ellie. Have a great weekend!
Great ''Golden Girl" post, Carolyn. We had rain also--but not nearly as much as you did. However, we had horribly high winds for a couple of days... That took care of that beautiful yard I posted about earlier this week. ha ha
I'm sure you have heard about that horrible rock slide in TN. That's about 2 hours southeast of us.. We have gone that way several times when visiting our friends in NC. It is/was a beautiful drive.... GADS!!!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
I woke up this morning and my first thought was: Fridays are golden!
Well, sorta, my FIRST thought was where is my coffee..then I went to the Golden part. :)
I hope your weekend dries up..for the dogs at least. Mine don't like rain either, sissies.
Take care, Suz
Our animals are equally bad about the rain. I have to escort them to the porch and give a gentle shove to make them carry on down to the wet grass. It's that initial step that seems so difficult.
love the 2 tennis balls..!!!!
Their eyes are so expressive! They seem eager to go out, and sad that they cannot.
That is so cute they don't like the rain! That is nice so you don't have to wipe paws all the time :) I'm impressed with the two tennis balls!
Me and Lucy are on the same page when it come to rain...especially cold rain. And my Chessapeake Muffy would spend hours working on the three tennis balls in the mouth trick. Never did it though.
I'm so glad all the rain is finally gone! L hates the rain (actually I think he just hates the wet ground) but the other two don't mind much. It rained for about 4 days straight, here, but now the sun is out and it looks like a beautiful day to start the weekend!
(By the way, happy belated anniversary! I missed a few posts!)
Love seeing your girls as always Carolyn. Have a very beautiful weekend.
Nella so understands what Lucy and Ellie are going through. We have torrential rain and gales at the moment. Nella paces, she hates the rain but does not like being inside.....
I love the golden girl story each week....love the tennis balls in the mouth, amazing...I do hope the sun shines for them soon.....
Do Ellie and Lucy like to swim? My deceased Golden, Breezy, loved water if it involved swimming. In fact, she would plunge into frigid streams all winter if she could. However, rain was a different matter - then she liked the cozy inside better. Enjoy your weekend - hope it clears! It's snowing here.
...they are so sweet. Hope that rain moves out soon...for your puppies' sakes if nothing else!
My dog doesn't like the rain--she can't get outside and run so she mopes all day. We had 3 inches of rain during that storm that ravaged the central and eastern parts of Virginia. Luckily, no flooding here, only a power outage.
love the commentary, as usual!
My Luka won't step foot outside in the rain... I'm not sure how he can stand to hold it!
Thanks for your comments.
Cathy - Yes, the heavy rain was from Ida.
YD - Oh, yes. Both dogs attend to business very quickly when it rains.
Robin - I see that "make it stop" look all the time. Lucy seems to think I control the weather.
Betsy - Yes, we saw the video of the scary rock slide. We also had another one here in Western NC on one of the secondary roads.
Cheryl - Hope things dry out for you. I know your garden must be a bit flooded.
Laura - I don't understand Luka either. Goldens and Labs are supposed to love any kind of water.
We've had two absolutely gorgeous days here in Tennessee, so hopefully the rains in NC have stopped and the girls can get out to run around.
I'll bet they are enjoying the weather now!
I didn't think that rain and wind would ever leave. We had over 5 inches of rain down here.
38 years, that's wonderful!....just catching up with your posts! (for some reason i can't get your blog on my sidebar...)and i space it out....:(
the dogs are so funny, goldens are clowns, and the two tennis ball hold is so very cute! my first golden Beau would walk around with 3 most of the time....now i can't have tennis balls laying around because Richard and Tahoe want the same one...there has been some bloodshed...(minor)and my training skills are poor, so i put the balls away...tahoe has her floppy frisbee though!!
xo
I love that bed with Lucy on it! I need to get one of these for the Peks to sleep on! Can you give me the info?
