LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

The Golden Girls are in love with their new beds. They do not pay any attention to the names embroidered on them (did anyone really think that mattered?) and plop in them whenever we are in the den. In the past, both dogs loved to lie under the pigeon hole in my husband's desk when he was sitting there. Not any more...they go straight to their new beds.

Ellie almost always has at least one tennis ball with her. She carries them in her mouth as she "talks" with me. She also like to take charge of the blue tug toy and decide when they will have a battle over it.

The beds are quite spacious. Each of our girls is normal-sized for a female Golden Retriever and while Ellie looks much bigger they both weigh about 65 pounds.

We did not replace the beds in the great room. Because the floors are hardwood, they use these beds most of the time. They do lie in the floor when the sun is shining on them. Almost all the time Lucy climbs in the bed Ellie is using.

No matter the sleeping position, Lucy manages to find a way to fit herself in the bed.

And if there isn't any room to fit herself? Lucy is quite content to snuggle in and use Ellie as a soft pillow.

As we approach the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, take this weekend to veg out like our Goldens. Reflect on what is REALLY important and don't let the rest of it make you anxious. This should be a time of love and joy, not stress. Make a promise that you will NOT give in to the madness but will actually enjoy the upcoming holidays, whichever ones you celebrate.

Our thoughts go out to the victims and families and loved ones of the recent incident at Fort Hood. Such senseless violence with such dire consequences.
HAVE A MOST WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE.

My golden girl is a bit more hefty than your girls. If only I could convince my husband not to feed her quite so much!

Seeing your girls together has made me decide that IF I ever get another dog, she has to have a sister.

Hi Carolyn, I always love seeing your Fridays are Golden posts. Those babies of yours really have comfy beds, don't they?????

The tragedy yesterday was so senseless.. Wonder what in the world possesses people to do such horrible things????

Have a great day and weekend.

Hi ncmountainwoman....Ellie and |Lucy brighten my Fridays. Just two goldies doing what comes naturally, and sometimes that is just what I need, normality.....

When I saw the news this morning I was so saddened by the incident at Fort Hood.....

This week has seen another five of our young soldiers taken from us.....the heartbroken families lining the villages to see them safely home.....

My heart is heavy.........

Have a wonderful weekend with the golden girls.......

Always love to see your golden girls snuggling together - they seem to truly be great sisters! And their new beds are gorgeous! You capture such great shots of them - love the sleeping positions in that last photo!
And yes, that incident at Ft. Hood yesterday is so tragically horrible. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful words.

Your golden girls remind me that dogs need companionship. I love the way they curl around each other. I think if I ever got a dog, I'd get two!

I so look forward to Fridays every day because I know it means that I'll get to see these lovely photos. Marge is vegging out today, too, after our long walk. It's the dog's life!

I usually do veg out on Saturdays, right after spinning yarn. That's a sort of vegging, too.

You offer great words of wisdom in respect to the holidays. This is one year I plan to settle in and enjoy.

My heart goes out to the families, friends and colleagues of all who were killed and injured, and those who weren't but were damaged by the events at Fort Hood. What a sad state of affairs.

If we all lived a nice life like Ellie and Lucy, there would surely be world peace. :) They looks so content...I will try to channel their feeling this weekend.

I gave up the holiday maddness this time last year and declared I would only shop for my kids and nieces and nephews. My family went along with this and we all had a stress-less holiday!!!

I am in love with Goldens. They are so peaceful in their new beds :)

I really enjoyed your reminder to slow down this holiday season. To really enjoy it, savor it and not rush through it because that's the "thing to do".

My prayers go out to those affected by the tragedy at Ft. Hood.

My old girl (mostly Golden) spends most of her time on her bed these days. But she'll occasionally surprise me by following me outside for a walk on her arthritic old legs.

I have not seen one of these before and need to get one for our dog now that we have hardwood floors. He is NOT happy with them at all.

I don't think there is any sweeter picture than seeing these two girls snuggled together. Lucky girls too. They have really nice beds. I have been looking for one like that for my Lab.

Your girls are so obviously very close friends. It's heart-warming.

I agree about the holidays but it can be so hard not to let the family 'stuff' make one stressed out. I'll try, though!

Love you Lucy and Ellie! I think your Mom could fit in those beds with you :)

Your pictures were "comfort food" on an unsettling day.

The new beds look large enough for the girls to invite friends over for sleepovers.

Love my Golden Friday fix (even if I did not get to it until Saturday morning).

And, yes, I plan to have a very relaxed weekend. The sun is rising on what is promising to be a gorgeous Saturday, so we are headed out hiking through the mountains. We are in the lull of tourism (post leaves / pre skiing), so the opportunities are wide open.

If I was stressed, visiting Ellie and Lucy would help alleviate it! Such languid poses.
