LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

We left the Golden Girls confused last Friday. Their beds had been taken outside. Lucy was standing bewildered and Ellie had high-tailed it to her crate...the place she can count on for safety and security.

Very soon my husband came downstairs carrying something of interest. Two very curious dogs examined it.

My husband left the room again.
Lucy said, "I'll bet there's going to be another one!"

Sure enough, here came another new dog bed.

You may have noticed that the beds have names on them. I thought this was foolish, but imagine my surprise when Lucy immediately determined that her bed was the one that said, "Lucy." My husband insisted she knew how to read, but I think she just wanted the first one. After all, she deserves to be first in line.

Within 30 seconds and one quick turnaround, Lucy snuggled into the plush new bed.

She immediately fell asleep. "Finally! A bed befitting my status as Princess."

Ellie was typically much more cautious. She seemed a bit unsure that this was really hers. My husband said that unlike Lucy, Ellie couldn't read her name.

Ellie settled in the bed, but looked a bit uncomfortable.
"This is too much like furniture. Are you sure it's all right for me to be lying here?"

Ellie quickly made herself comfortable. In no time at all, Lucy got out of her bed to share Ellie's bed with her. There is a lot of room so she isn't using Ellie for a pillow.

"Thank goodness that's over," says Ellie.

"Cool it, Elllie. There's always the upstairs bed we can share. You are almost as soft as my new bed."

The wind and rain have played havoc on the leaves and this morning is chilly with heavy fog. October is ending. It will be a rough Sunday for the girls since their own clocks do not reset and they will not be happy that dinnertime will be a little later. November arrives on Sunday if you can believe it. As so many wonderful people sang Sandy Denny's lovely song, "Who knows where the time goes?" It surely does fly. (Listen to North Carolina's own Nina Simone, or Sandy Denny, or Eva Cassidy, or Judy Collins sing this beautiful song. So sad that of the four, only Judy Collins remains with us.)
Have a wonderful weekend. Pause to count your blessings in life and think of those less fortunate.

Those nice big beds look a little like todler furniture! Isn't it funny that Lucy knew her own?
Such pretty girls-

Those new beds look awfully comfy! I'll bet my crew would have been curled up on them before they finished hitting the ground!

Lucky dogs! It looks like they've adapted well enough.

My yard is covered with a thick layer of golden leaves today. If it would stop raining, we could get some cleanup done.

I love your Friday posts!
Lucy and Ellie are so sweet, I lov how they snuggle together.
Isn't it funny how they (like humans) have such different personalities?
Have a nice weekend..hope it clears up for you.

They do look comfy and cozy in their new beds.

Have you ever heard Sandy Denny do Who Knows Where The Time Goes? It's really quite beautiful. There are several different versions on YouTube.

Wow, those beds look really comfy.
Funny how they each have their own bed but still sleep in one bed.

Either my golden is much larger than your two or those beds are huge! Good that they can snuggle up and share the beds with each other, it's much more warm and cozy that way!

I loved your post about Lucy and Ellie's new beds and read through it twice - it made me feel cozy, too, on this cold CO day!

Beautiful beds.....I think that I could do with one of those.
I do love that you manage to get a post each week and always as good as the one before.
I think we have all taken the golden girls to our hearts....

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the autumn....

I'm so glad that girls didn't have to wait all week for their beds! I was worrying... just like Ellie was, I'm sure.

Those look like very cushy beds. But, of course Lucy will still find a way to use Ellie as her pillow!

Those are two sweet and pampered pooches. Baron also reads (my mind that is) but I hid this post from him as I don't want him to feel underpriveleged.

Those beds look awesome. The Herd is jealous, though I remind them that they like to disembowel their beds.

Gee Carolyn, IF I am a good girl, will you buy me a new bed with my name on it????? Those beds look wonderful... How Plush!!!!!! Those are two lucky ladies to have such neat beds---even if they use each other as a pillow...

Rains are coming tonight--but I did get some leaves blown in the yard today.

Hugs,
Betsy

Perhaps now they will stop sleeping on the chair legs.

Awww--what else can I say.
Love the girls. I feel like I know them.

I knew that the story of the two beds would result in the two girls yet again laying side by side. They are such creatures of habit, aren't they?

happy weekend to you!

Nice photos and nice song. Our dogs get the more basic dog beds, which they also seem to like. Lucy and Ellie seem very lucky.

That is so sweet! I love that they choose to be together, even when they have nice new beds. I should have know Lucy knew how to read :)

Adorable photos, the goldens are my favorites dogs. Your dogs are very pretty. I have a just one Goldie now she is my "Goldie" girl. I wonder if my Goldie would like one of those beds.

I'm sure your hub is wrong about Ellie not being able to read. She was simply not sure she liked the color.

The granddog Weimaraner is visiting this weekend and they brought her bed. It's like a RUG, it's so darned big, but hey. . . if it keeps her off the furniture...!

It looks as if the new beds were a success. I'm sure the girls appreciated them. It's still raining over here in Tennessee, so I imagine you will have it for quite a while yet.

Those beds are huge. I should get one for my dog who gets on the sofa anytime she can! The weather is chilly and cloudy today--can't believe it's already November.

Hi,
Nice to meet you! You have beautiful Goldens! I'm going to follow! I like the nice beds, I was thinking of getting big beds like that also, they look nice and comfy!
PS Who said dog's can't read??

Twisted Fencepost said...

Ellie can read?! I think your husband is right. tee hee
They are beautiful girls no matter what bed they choose.

Thanks for your comments.

Lynne - I have no idea why Lucy seemed to know this bed was hers.

Robin - Thanks for the idea. I created the links.

Robin - They are pretty big beds. Our Goldens are probably a bit smaller than yours since they are female. Each is about 65 pounds.

Troutbirder - Baron definitely deserves one of these beds.

Herd - These are a bit pricey to disembowel.

What sweet girls! The photo of them together in the sunshine is priceless - and, makes me want to snuggle with them!

Too fun. I'm glad the girls like their new beds ... they look pretty plush!

I like your blog. Beautiful Goldies. My husband and I were married in 1971, too. Isn't it odd how quickly the years have passed?
