LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

This is how the weather has been all week long. Rain and fog and one hail storm. Few sightings of blue sky, much less of the sun. We are truly glad to see the rain, but being human, we would prefer that the rain fall at night and give us brighter days. We're just never satisfied, are we?

Our Golden Girls do not like the rain at all. They don't want to be outside in the rain. They don't like getting their coats wet. They don't like getting dried off. And they aren't that happy about hanging around the house all day. There are little bursts of activity between the sleeping sessions.

Here, they play with their favorite toy...a blue tug. Fortunately our den is large and the furniture is heavy so the girls are allowed to wrestle there.

[All these dog photos were taken by my husband.]

When they tired of playing, Ellie went to one of the large beds for a snooze. Lucy decided she wanted to share the bed, although clearly there is not enough room. She is only partly in the bed; most of her is on the floor.

Ellie moves and Lucy stretches out. I have no idea why she didn't use the other bed to begin with.

While she loves to curl up into a ball, she also likes to stretch on her back to sleep. She will lie in that position until she sneezes or her airway obstructs, much like a person with sleep apnea. It makes her awaken with a start and she looks at us as if we have made noise.

Ellie has decided that she would rather lie on the floor than have to share a bed with Lucy. There are many times when Lucy will use Ellie for a pillow. If Ellie starts to get up, Lucy will growl at her! Fortunately, Ellie pays this no mind and does what she wants.

Fall is definitely in the air with much cooler nights. The trees are beginning to turn even at this elevation. We wanted to get up to the Blue Ridge Parkway this week, but the cams showed lack of visibility due to the fog and rain. Perhaps we'll get there next week.
Whatever your weather, I hope you have a good weekend. Indulge yourself. Let the vacuuming go and read a good book, or take a long walk. Call or write a friend.
AND HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!

A wonderful weekend to you too! Your doggies are wonderful - aren't dogs just the best friends?

I agree with the girls -- I'm ready to get outside during the day with some sunshine. But like you, I agree that we need the rain so I won't complain.

Those two are so cute together. It's great that they have each other for furry companionship. Hope you get some sunshine over the weekend.

Hello Carolyn, I can't wait 'til you all get to drive on the Blue Ridge Pkwy--and show us some of those beautiful pictures. We have many favorite areas --but your area is one of our VERY fav's...

Your girls made the best of the rain--just like we have. We humans don't like to be in the rain either--but we also don't like to be inside for long periods of time...

Love your story about Lucy sleeping on her back and waking herself up---thinking you did it!!!! Cute!
Hugs,
Betsy

Our Lilly loves to lay on her back too. She looks so funny when she does it.

I think we have had the tail end of the wet week you had--that storm system that moved up the east coast.

Just as I looked at the photo your dog lying on her back, our dog rolled over on her bed into that position. Too funny.

I love the shot of them curled up: a ball of cute, golden fur.

I am looking at a ginormous swatch of rain coming our way for the entire day. Looks like a good day for curling up in the chair, watching football, and reading during the commercials. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend Carolyn. ;c)

What a soppy wet Friday for us. We got over an inch of rain. But the sun is out this morning - for now. Have fun.

P.S. - We are so familiar with the "I am laying here" and "But I want to lay there too" conversations! There are far more dog beds than dogs here, but it never matters.

It IS a bit dreary now, isn't it? But this is certainly better than the drought we had last year. I think your girls have the right idea---curling up for a nap in a comfortable spot. I like your suggestion even better--curling up with a good book. We're hoping to head up to the Parkway next week too, before the great crush of Leaf Peepers in October. :-)

Have a great weekend!

I chuckled that Lucy growls if Ellie tries to get up while serving as a pillow! What characters they are.

Those are some great pics from your dogs! But I also like the yard pic though - you can see that the stepping stones are wet - and I guess the red in between are leaves that have fallen off?

Oh yes, let me not forget: hope you can find my response to your comment, because I inadvertently went out of order:(

If you could send some rain out to LA we'd be very happy to see it:) Look how lush your garden is! I do know how the girls feel though from living in rainy Vancouver for many years, hee, hee. Enjoy your weekend too!

We are having lovely fall weather but had a wet, cool summer. My parents are driving to Canada right now from Mexico and have been remarking on the heavy rains they have come through so far.

We have a very ancient Golden girl - inherited from a neighbor. We never knew her a s young dog but she is as loving and full of personality as can be.

Thanks for your visit to my place! And I loved your pictures of the bobcat!

Love your golden girls! Your scenery pics are wonderful too! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. You have definitely made a great case for purchasing an iPod. Who knows, I may yet change my mind! That's a woman's prerogative, isn't it!! I'm actually one of those weird people who loves the silence, except when on a long car trip. Some of the gals at work love background music, white noise, but that distracts me. Go figure! But some podcasts of great speakers, now that I wouldn't turn down. Thanks for stopping by!

I know what you mean about rain, rain, rain. We're getting flash floods. I loved the photos of the dogs. Looks like they are having fun despite the bad weather. Have a great week. I hope we get some sunshine later this week.
