LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

Regardless of what you thought, admired, or hated about the two men...doesn't there seem to be excessive disparity between the television coverage of the life and death of Edward Kennedy as compared to the coverage of the life and death of Michael Jackson? Am I reading too much into what this says about us? Just curious.

A small package arrived the other day. Not an unusual event. My husband put the package and the rest of the mail on the kitchen counter. Both of the dogs immediately stood near the counter, noses in the air. Such strange behavior.

My husband opened the package and the girls stood there as if the contents were intended for them.

He put the opened package on the counter. Lucy is sniffing away. Notice that she is very careful not to put her nose higher than the edge of the counter. That's strictly forbidden around here. As usual, she comes as close as possible without crossing the line.

I have no idea what has set the dogs into high gear. Then my husband showed me. The package contains their heart worm preventative and the company always includes a doggie biscuit. Actually, it's quite a BIG doggie biscuit.

Lucy smiles with anticipation and delight.
"I just know that's all for me, isn't it? We might as well send Ellie downstairs."
No, Lucy. The biscuit is plenty big enough to share.

Both girls watch excitedly as my husband breaks the unexpected treat. They always seem so surprised when they get a treat since they don't get them very often at all.

Relaxed and happy, the girls look toward me as if to say, "There wasn't another one in there by chance, was there?"
We order our medications Online because our veterinarian's office is a bit out of the way. As a convenience to his patients, he charges the same price as the Online company so he doesn't make any profit from them and we don't think we are harming his business. While we order our medications Online, we still take the girls in for annual physical examinations and blood work. In fact, I hate the commercials that tell me I am saving on vet bills when I order from them. Not true at all, and unsafe for your dogs as well.
---------------It's the last Friday in August!!! I'm not at all happy about seeing summer leave us. It has seemed so brief this year.
Make the most of this last August weekend. Forget about the house and yard. Just get up tomorrow morning and decide to do something fun. Stay safe and happy and enjoy your loved ones, human and animal.

Boy, the GIRLS sure were LUCKY...
I just took my Pup in for his annual check up & shots and he gets a LITTLE bisket. Since he's NOW 94 lbs. he of course doesn't think it's quite enough.

Lovely Ladies always love to get good things in the mail, it's like Christmas all over again!!!

My Best...Marilyn

They are such well-behaved girls, and lucky to be getting such yummy treats in the mail.

I don't watch much TV, so I haven't had an opportunity to see the disparity of coverage. I can guess, though. MJ probably got more than poor Ted Kennedy. The TV people must know what's really important. Sigh.

Chuckling - Our vets office is not exactly next door (about a 20-25 minute drive from the house to downtown Waynesville), but with 6 dogs . . . Well, let's just say we are always there for one reason or another.

The girls look great! Do you get 1 treat or 2 in there? I'm about to take the peek gang in this afternoon. Jake and Sadie for annuals and the pups get their first round today. Have a great weekend! :)

Great story! Now if I could get Mrs. T's cat to stay off the kitchen counter....

Their noses are something aren't they? I do plan on something fun tomorrow - babysittiing for my 3 & 2 year old Grandchildren.

My, even the dogs are getting mail. Such a deal ... but they deserve it, being such GOOD girls ... so well trained and all.

Mingus is especially good when he knows there is a treat waiting but otherwise ...

Lucky girls! My dogs love the FedEx Delivery man because he leaves 2 biscuits every time!

Could you talk with my dogs about the nose above the counter rule? You seem to rule with an iron fist! One of my dogs understands but the other thinks that it only applies when human eyes are present.

My dog tries to check out every shopping bag for treats. My husband usually has them for her while I don't. So, she usually gives up on me quickly. If by chance my husband hasn't brought anything home, Kookie then whines by the cabinet where we keep her treats to get one. I love dogs!

Another chapter in the Goldens Girls Book.....you could make a wonderful story about Ellie and Lucy....they are just so perfect......

I could not agree more re:Edward Kennedy and Michael Jackson.....my husband and I said the same thing.......sad reflection of our times.....

Enjoy your weekend....have fun.....

Good point at the beginning. It just goes to show you what our culture, unfortunately, values.

I've been so busy this summer that I've gotten out of my habit of reading all the posts in the blogs that I follow,... Oh, beautiful golden girls... how I have missed seeing your doggie-smiles! Glad you enjoyed that treat!

That's one big biscuit! Bet they enjoyed it.

I have no problem ordering heartworm prevention from my vet, but flea/tick prevention is much cheaper online, so I think I'm going to go that route when I make my next purchase of it.

That is so nice that they got a little treat in the mail w/ their heartworm medication! They look like such good girls that they definitely deserved that treat!

Your girls knew when a package was for them! Glad they enjoyed their treats.

Hi Carolyn, I always enjoy reading about your Goldens. They are so well-behaved... I say this frequently, but I wish all dogs were trained like yours are. It doesn't happen often.

Yes---we live in a SECULAR world/country... Scary, isn't it????
Hugs,
Betsy

It looks as if the girls enjoyed their unexpected treat. But it does look like it would be difficult to sneak anything past them.

How sweet, your dogs are adorable~ I love that story. They seem to be trained very well!! I agree with you about the disparity between the coverage of MJ and Kennedy... very sad!

That was a good sized biscuit for sure! We stopped giving our dog heart worm pills because of his liver disease. We don't have many mosquitoes around our home and the infection is not as well established here as it is in the south.
MJ was a world wide celebrity. Ted Kennedy was a US senator. We heard very little about his death in Canada. But we do know that people are far more interested in entertainment than politics.

Thanks, everyone.

Thistlebroom - Our dogs are really strange. They will not accept the cookie at the vet. We have to pick up the cookies and bring them home.

Robin - We don't watch much television either, just turn it on periodically to see if something earth-shaking has happened.

Herd - Yep, guess with six kids there's always one getting into something.

Carol - Can't believe the puppies are getting so old.

Troutbirder - the very reason this house will never have a cat.

Barb - I wish I had some grandchildren to babysit. It must be such fun.

KB - I can't be assured the nose below the counter rule is followed when we are not around. However, nothing has ever been disturbed.

Appalachian - Amazing how quickly they learn who has goodies and who doesn't.

1000 Goldens - I love our cabinets and counters as well. So great to take something out of the oven and just set it on the counter.

Laura - Yes, they LOVE the heartworm medicine. They think it's the best treat they get.
