Yesterday the bird and I (along with my camera) met together on the deck and I got a few shots.
His markings are definitely those of a Pine Warbler. Perhaps he is just more yellow than most? Or does anyone think it's a different bird?Here's one bird I can always identify...our little Downy Woodpecker. She was feasting yesterday along with the yellow bird. Our squirrel baffle is working fine. I'm tempted to take it off so the crazy squirrel can finish gnawing the suet feeder! Wild Birds will replace it if it no longer holds suet. They have never had this problem with this particular feeder. Leave it to us to have the first one to be attacked by squirrels.
You may note how brightly the sun was shining yesterday. This morning dawned misty and gray. When my husband took the dogs for their morning walk, they walked in mist, then rain, then sleet, then snow. Just as they were approaching the house, lightning streaked across the sky to begin a thunderstorm. As we enter our third year of drought, we welcome anything that falls from the sky.

No advice on the probable pine warbler, but wow, what a beautiful little bird! I haven't seen any like that at our feeders. We do get oodles of downy woodpeckers (and hairy woodpeckers - and I can now always remember which is which thanks to KatDoc's memory device, "downy is dinky, hairy is huge") and we have even had a visit from one of the big fox squirrels that live in the woods.
Not sure if it's a Pine Warbler - but it sure is a golden beauty! You captured some stunning photos of it! And I like that suet feeder you have - I need one that size and maybe the Pileated Woodpeckers would use it.
Great shots,.... not sure about the identity, there does not appear to be the streaking on the breast. The beak is like a warbler. Could it be an immature? But early in season for that. I'll stand on the "I don't know" side of the room!

Pine warbler! Streaking on sides, dark bill, sort of an eyering there. Younger ones are duller, but mature birds can look really yellow in sunlight--and some are just more yellow than others. Great shots! PWs are fairly common in NC, especially when you've got pines nearby as you surely do. One of my favorite birds to spot in the yard!
Great pictures of the warbler! You and your camera were definitely in the right place. By the way, the tornado warning sirens went off here not long ago and we're in the middle of a hail storm. More bad weather may be headed your way.
Your first warbler picture reminds me of those little yellow bird toys that would walk when you wound them up. Cute!
I'm no bird expert, but I also vote for Pine Warbler. We've got quite a few of them right now here in Western Georgia. I've really enjoyed them this winter. Great pictures, too!
Whatever he is, Carolyn, he sure 'am' purdy!!!!!! Can't wait to see the vivid colors of the birds --as spring gets here. So far--they are still drab looking up here.
As George said, we had a big hail storm today... The tornado sirens went off --and it was kinda scary for awhile. BUT--we're fine!!!

We have had considerable drought here as well. It certainly does not help the farmers or backyard gardeners, nor does it help a canoeist such as myself!

Wow Carolyn, that's too bad about your suet feeder. I was working at WBU when those recycled plastic feeders first came out and people were so excited that FINALLY there was going to be a feeder that squirrels didn't like chewing on. I guess your squirrels didn't get the memo!
That warbler is quite a beauty. There's a Townsend's Warbler that comes to bathe in the neighbor's birdbath here. There's something about warblers that's so bright and beautiful.
Hope you get lots of precipitation there.

The pine warbler is stunning. Such vivid colour....you could not miss that little chap in the garden, he really stands out.

i am having problems with so many song birds showing up with their eyes swollen shut that I took all my feeders down and gave them a good cleaning and haven't put them back up..Im waiting for those that weren't feeling well to disperse..so I am not seeing any birds in my backyard :(

you must have some special suet ..that squirrel must have it...or else he loves the flavor of wood.

Shelley - The feeder is perfect for Pileateds. I highly recommend it, despite our crazy squirrel.
Iris - Yes, we do have Pine Warblers and this is without a doubt the most yellow one I've ever seen, and with very little green.
George - The horrid weather was predicted here but it fizzled before reaching us. Thank goodness.
Lynne - Oh, he does look like a wind-up! I used to love those things (actually, I still do).
RuthieJ - I'm sure WBU would replace it now if we asked. They just couldn't believe the damage when I showed them a photograph. It's a wonderful feeder and we are the only ones in the neighborhood able to attract Pileated Woodpeckers because of it.
Tina - Sorry to hear about your infected birds. We've been on the lookout here because of reports of infected Pine Siskins in our county. Fortunately we haven't seen any.
Looks like a pine warbler.. I had one VERY yellow a few weeks ago. I'd rather ID woodpeckers any day. I'm terrible at those little warblers.
