LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

We interrupt the Golden Days to bring you this little picture. It has been cold here by anyone's standards. Thursday morning dawned with a 4-degree temperature. My husband put out the feeders and filled the little bird bath. It was so cold the water "steamed" up. This little siskin seems to think we put out a sauna.

(Now back to our regular Friday post.)
Whenever I get out the vacuum cleaner, Ellie goes to her crate for the duration. Lucy, on the other hand, has a knack for lying exactly in the spot I plan to vacuum next. This little game plays out until the vacuuming is complete.

Here she is, eyes open, knowing she is going to have to move.

She staggers up, looking quite unkempt and goes to lie somewhere else.

When I need to vacuum the new resting place, Lucy goes back to her favorite spot on the rug in the foyer.

When the vacuum cleaner is put away, Ellie comes out of her crate. She often takes a bed by the window. Wouldn't you know? The instant Lucy knew Ellie was here, she got up and moved over to share the bed.

Another favorite spot for both dogs is under my husband's desk. Whenever he is working at the desk or computer, both dogs are lying at his feet.

Another Friday is here. The hours of sunlight are lengthening. Weather across the country should be better this weekend. Our thoughts are still with the folks in Kentucky as they enter yet another week without electricity.

HAVE A WONDERFUL AND SAFE WEEKEND. DO AT LEAST ONE THING THAT BRINGS YOU JOY.

Brrrrr, Carolyn... You all got even colder than we did. Our low was 7 degrees I think!!! But--as you said, it's FINALLY going to get warmer.. Yeah!!!

Your sweet Goldens really have different personalities, don't they??? The best part was seeing them lying where the sun can hit them.. It's like they have their own electric blanket!!!! Don't you know that that sun feels good on a cold day!

Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy

I think the siskin is wondering -- like the rest of us -- when spring is going to get here! Cute picture. But of course your Golden Girls are as adorable as ever!

I love this; they are so cute! I have to play matador with Cutty (the vacuum being the red flag).

Love the siskin photo!!

The golden girl on the rug is a smart cookie to chose that as her favorite spot. The sunlight must keep her so warm and toasty!

I'm with Ellie ... those vacuums are so noisy ... it is best to be as far away from them as possible.

Carolyn I love that first photo. Poor little thing was trying to get warm. And as always I love your Fridays are golden posts.

Your goldens are gorgeous! I especially love the photo of them sharing a bed. Their fur is so shiny and full.

My husband went out to put feed in the feeder Thursday morning when the temperature was 8 degrees. A goldfinch seemed almost frozen to the feeder so he held out his hand with seed. The bird jumped onto his hand and weakly fed.

Today, it's supposed to get to be 60 degrees! I will take your advice about doing something that gives me joy--just getting outside should do it.

That first shot is beautiful.

Yesterday was like a real sauna hre in Melbourne - our hottest day ever, at 116 Fahrenheit.

Loved the birdy sauna! And think its cute that your golden girls like to lay underneath your husband's desk at his feet!

Ellie and Lucy you are two beautiful dogs, I don't know of any animal that likes the vaccum.

The bird looks like it's enjoying the sauna. Everything's relative, i guess.
Funny to learn a dog's personality. I had a dog who would put her toys in front of the vacuum or lawn mower so I'd have to stop and throw them off to the side - thus giving her something to fetch!

Coming to visit the golden girls is part of the pleasure. I love to read about them. They always, always, make me smile....

And I love the little bird having his sauna......

Oh, I'm glad you came by! I'm trying to resurrect the memory for blog addresses I had before my hard drive crashed- now I'll put you in my blogroll so I can find you anytime.

Those dogs are really lovely. If we had a dog (as in, if we had a yard, which we will have in 18mos to 2 yrs) it would be a golden or a lab or a mix of those two. I love these photos of them. I wonder what they would think of a Roomba? :-)

Chet Baker sometimes likes to be chased with the vacuum cleaner. He will playbow and roo at me. But most of the time he pastes his ears back and gives me a baleful glare, moving only when I threaten to vacuum him right up!

Your girls are so lovely.

Thank you SO much for the utterly unexpected and lovely card with Norma's column folded in it. I have found Norma's email address and am writing her to thank her. I so enjoy your comments, and am happy to find your beautiful blog. Wonderful siskin shot!

Thanks, everyone.

Janie - Clever dog. We had one that would chase after the vacuum.

Mark on my wall - Oh, I cannot even imagine a roomba and the dogs. I'm sure they would think it a toy.

Julie - Thanks. It was interesting to read about you in our local paper.

I like the bird sauna.

Whenever I see your two dogs together it makes me wish that Lilly had a sister. They seem so loving and companionable together.

If I ever get another pet, whether it be a cat or dog, I want to get a sister too. (I prefer female pets)
