April 4th last year brought us a rain/snow/sleet mixture. It was quite cold and the trees were covered with ice. None of that this year. We have had near record-breaking highs all week. Today we are in line for a series of severe thunderstorms. We need the rain, since it is very dry and the tree pollen is thick.
Lucy looked out at the sleet falling on the deck.
All the branches on the trees were coated with ice.
We know that we will have more chilly weather. But we also know that spring is getting closer and closer.
Our quote comes from American author and journalist Hal Borland:
"No Winter lasts forever, no Spring skips its turn. April is a promise that May is bound to keep, and we know it."
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY WEEKEND, EVERYONE!!!
This certainly has been a miserable winter. I usually like the cold, and don't complain (I really dislike the humid heat of high summer), but this year...
ReplyDeleteTHIS YEAR has tested me and I snapped. We certainly needed our southern California break in March.
After the vicious winter I was SO READY for spring. Except, as usual, I forgot all about April showers. Cool & rainy (some flooding) - I waited three months for this? :)
ReplyDeleteI know the look of the second photo so well. We have rainy looking skies here to but it is mild (thankfully.)
ReplyDeleteI like the quote. I believe the quote. I needed that quote....:)
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos and a truly excellent quote!
ReplyDeleteI needed that message. Thank you! And beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos and a perfect quote at the end of a cold day for both of us.
ReplyDeleteTake care!
The last time I was up your way (in'08) there was snow in mid April.
ReplyDeleteDear Lucy.......has she adjusted well to being an only dog?
ReplyDeleteI am sure animals, like us, grieve.
Brrrr looks cold.
Our weather is odd this year, changes daily. Heavy mist this morning and rain is expected tomorrow.....could do without the rain as the fields around us are still waterlogged.
Enjoy your weekend.
I remember that day; it was our one year anniversary of living our log cabin life! Hard to believe it's been two years now. We enjoyed this winter, though I have to admit we are happy to see spring. I'm looking forward to getting back to the cabin after this trip to the river.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning about swan aggression...so far they've stayed far away, but I did hear someone say that when they first build the nest the male would chase people away from the waters edge.
Great quote ~ hang in there !
ReplyDeleteShe looks about as fed up with the weather as the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteSpring is springing here. Just came in from mowing the yard. More Henbit than grass however.
splendid quote. many will just have to hang onto those words.
ReplyDeleteI love that we both have dogs named "Lucy." A chihuahua and a golden. What a pair.
Love Hal Borland. And even though it's chilly today, we do have Spring.
ReplyDeleteYour lucky is cute. Feel so cool by seeing the snow!
