New Bird

Isn't it interesting that some times good things just happen? Yesterday I was sitting on the deck reading. I had my camera with me, but I wasn't paying close attention to the birds. Suddenly I saw a quick flash of yellow. I picked up the camera and got one shot. By the time I got the camera focused, he was positioned to take off again. It was a Yellow-throated Warbler! I know that these birds often summer in our area, but this was the first one I have ever seen. Imagine...a lifer just dropped in my lap.

Today is Earth Day! A day for all of us to commit ourselves to reducing our carbon footprint, to become responsible for our daily carbon consumption. A day to help our children's children. A day to help our world-wide family.

John McConnell's Earth Day Flag

Earth Day had its official beginning in 1970 when Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson asked Congress to declare April 22 as Earth Day in the U.S. The first Earth Day focused on zero population growth. This year's theme is "The Green Generation." Pledge yourself to do something, however small, to help our environment. Start by looking at your carbon footprint and take measures to reduce yours. It takes all of us to make a difference.

  1. What a lovely bird. I would love to be out on my deck reading, but it is raining and cold. The warblers should be in our area in the next two weeks.

  4. Isn't it just wonderful having a new birdie visit? That's so cool having it come so close to you. I've only seen them in the wooded area and they seem to be very skittish...lucky you!! Great shot.

  5. What a nice visitor at such a great time! He's just a little beauty sitting there with that bright yellow splash to flash and show off to the world and you. Those kind of moments always bring a smile.

Great reminder and history on Earth Day. It's so very, very important.

Hope you'll see the little warbler again real soon!

  10. Hi Carolyn, I love that new bird of yours. I've never seen one. However, I did see my first (in person) Mockingbird in Texas. Didn't get a picture of course....But--he was pretty!!!!

Hope you had a great week/weekend.

We are glad to be home.. It was a wonderful trip --just getting to see my son and family. BUT--the weather was horrible. Oh Well!!!!

I'm going to check through some of your older blog posts.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  20. Wow! That's an absolutely gorgeous shot of a Yellow-throated Warbler! Very cool. I remember how exciting it was when I saw my first one too, way up in a tree years ago while out on a Sunday morning bird walk in Brecksville, Ohio. To have yours drop down close is really something!
