LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Bare Mountains

I know we have a few more days until it is winter, but when the trees shed all their leaves it certainly looks like the dead of winter in the mountains. While we love the emerging spring greens and the fall burst of color, the majesty of the mountains is not diminished even when the trees are bare. The mountains change a lot during the winter, especially when covered with snow or ice. And the mountains change with the sky around them as well.

Here are some random shots taken during a drive through our county.

We have a large plaque under a map of our area. It reads, "Life is always better in the mountains." And that expresses the sentiment well. Life IS better here.

When I lived in Black Mountain, NC, I loved the mountains in all seasons. In winter I was always reminded of the psalm "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills...". Thanks for the memories.

Carolyn: Those certainly show only the evergreens are showing colors. We look the same in NE Ohio but we have had 18" of snow that has melted away from the rains. What a roller coaster ride we have had so far this Fall.

The mountains are beautiful, and I love taking trips to the mountains in the fall when the leaves are changing.

My hubby would love to live in the mountains ~ (me, I prefer the ocean).

Thanks for the visit!

Don't you just get amazed at the constant change of the mountains? I love seeing them today, with the rain, the "smoke" and fog.

Your mountains are inspiring. We enjoyed the drive through the Poconos on the way to NYC earlier this year. The Niagara Escarpment is the closest thing to a mountain in our area.

It is interesting that we see the landscape gets colored by the buds of next year's leaves. I agree, I love living in the mountains.

Thanks, everyone for the comments. We hope to get out on the Blue Ridge Parkway and re-visit some of the places you have seen during summer and autumn. The rock faces are particularly outstanding when there are no leaves on the trees.
