Huey's Little Sister

You saw the male Pileated Woodpecker baby whom we have named Huey. (Many thanks to Lynne for giving us the name.) This is his sibling, a bit smaller than Huey, whom we have named Hannah.

Hannah (left) and Big Momma

As her mother flies to the feeder, Hannah anxiously looks at her.

You're coming back, aren't you Mom?

Big Momma comes back and feeds Hannah. And wouldn't you know it? She feeds her behind the tree, so I couldn't photograph them.

Thanks, Mom. Can I please have more?

Oh, they are such a pleasure to watch.

  5. Neat pictures. I've stopped feeding the birds for the summer so our Pileated has been around for a while. I hope they raised a successful brood. Someone has to keep those Carpenter Ants in line!!!

  8. Shelley - Thanks

Helen - They are such fun to watch.

Donna - Yes, their heads do look a bit unkempt.

    Jayne - Thanks

Cicero - I feed them so I can see them more often. But they are doing a lot of work on the insects as well. I often see them down in the woods, digging insects from the trees.

Kerri - Thanks. Now, if I could just get all four of them in one shot...
